Project 3: Package Design

What did you learn? I learned how to create my own unique package design.
What was easy? It was easy to find out what type of package I wanted to revolve around this project. I ended up on choosing a makeup container
What was challenging? It was difficult to figure out what orientation the graphics and designs should go. I had to preplan my design and make sure everything was facing the correct way before starting.
How could your submission be improved? I like the scale of the final package, however I could’ve used different paper to make the print more stable.
How could the professor improve the assignment? I think everything worked for the project, and I liked how we were able to use whichever design program we were most comfortable with.
How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios? I will use this knowledge for future printing projects now that I am more comfortable with the cricut machine.
How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you? This article helped me in the early stages of the project because it shows the do’s and don’ts of print design.

Project 2: Merch

What did you learn? I learned how to create my own merch and print it out on a t-shirt as well as printed stickers.

What was easy? It was easy to create the designs. I used Figma which is a software I am comfortable with and could create my designs rather quickly.

What was challenging? It was challenging to figure out how to use the Cricut machines in the lab. However, once I learned how to operate each individual machine and software I could make a t-shirt fairly quickly.

How could your submission be improved? I could have spent more time cutting out the stickers or used a different material for the stickers themselves. I also could have done the silk screen technique for creating the t-shirt so it would last longer and be higher quality.

How could the professor improve the assignment? I wish there were written directions on how to use the Cricut software and machines. I found it challenging to work through the steps without written directions.

How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios? It is extremely helpful to know how to create t-shirts in the lab. I may need to use the heat press in a future assignment or for personal projects.

How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you? This website helped me determine a color scheme for my merch which then helped me come up with the overall designs.

Project 1: Point of Sale

What did you learn? I learned how to create a menu in InDesign. The process included choosing my own fonts, colors, and overall theme.
What was easy? It was easy to choose a color scheme and font for the menu.
What was challenging? It was challenging to align all the menu options so they were even in every direction and were within margins.
How could your submission be improved? The orange text color on the table tent came out brighter than I thought and was hard to read. If I were to do this project again I would have chose a different color. Also, the Miko logo was a little dark on the cover of my menu, I could have attempted to either find a different background or altered the color of the logo to be brighter.
How could the professor improve the assignment? I wish there was more than one demo on printing. We were introduced to it early in the project, however when it came time to print I forgot which settings to adjust in order to get it right.
How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios? I will use my new knowledge of InDesign in future assignments, now that I know more about the program.
How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you? This article gave me design ideas and helped me determine my final layout. Pinterest was also helpful in the design process.
