Project 3: Package

What did you learn? I learned how to create a package design in Illustrator that could be printed and put on a can. I also learned how to create a mock trade show booth using photoshop.
What was easy? The easy part of this project was cutting out the package design and mounting it on a can. Another easy part was actually using illustrator to create the elements of my package design.
What was challenging? The challenging part of this project was thinking of a name for the product as well as coming up with a theme and elements to go with it. Another thing that was challenging was getting the printer to print out my design.
How could your submission be improved? My submission could be improved by coming up with more elements to incorporate into my trade show booth to go along with the lightning bolt.
How could the professor improve the assignment? The assignment could be improved by going over the directions more clearly. I was a little confused on what we had to do for this project at first but I eventually caught on.
How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios? I could apply my knowledge to create more graphics for a new line of products from a corporate company. I could also show off the products because I learned how to create a trade show booth.
How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you? I don’t know if a specific piece of media inspired me but I just thought of all the different energy drinks and they all had a word that represented energy or power so I came up with Spark from that.

Project 2: Merch

What did you learn? I learned how to use the art history brush as well as many different filters to improve the look of the posters. I also learned how to make a design for merchandise of a specific artist.
What was easy? The easy part was coming up with an artist to do the project on as I am a big fan of The Weeknd. Another easy part was visualizing what I wanted the posters to look like.
What was challenging? The challenging part was putting my thoughts into art on the screen. It took quite a bit of time to find the right pictures to use. It was also a little challenging when I had to learn to use the art history brush as sometimes it didn’t come out how I wanted. Lets just say I did a lot of undoing.
How could your submission be improved? I think my submission could be improved by tweaking the title of the oil paint poster. Also I don’t know how I feel about the red balloons in the first poster.
How could the professor improve the assignment? I think the assignment was well done. It offered a wide range of merch options to design.
How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios? I could apply my knowledge to make merch for a potential client.
How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you? A video that helped me in this project was a YouTube video. It basically showed me how to paint over a picture without any painting skills using the art history brush. I don’t think the project would have turned out as good without that video.

Poster #1

Project 1: Menu

What did you learn? I learned how to design a menu for a restaurant as well as a table tent. I was a little rusty with InDesign so it was good to go over a lot of the features again such as paragraph character styles.
What was easy? The easy part was after I created a paragraph style, I could just apply it to any of the text I wanted super quick.
What was challenging? The challenging part of this project was coming up with a good design for the menu. I wanted to make something simple but creative which was a challenge. Also InDesign could be quite confusing at times as there is so many ways to do a single thing.
How could your submission be improved? I think my submission could be improved by experimenting with different character styles as I did go for the safe option with Helvetica and Garamond. I also could add some more colors to make it stand out more.
How could the professor improve the assignment? You could improve the assignment by teaching different ways to achieve goals in InDesign.
How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios? I now have a basic understanding of InDesign which I can expand upon with future projects. I also have knowledge that would allow me to design a menu for a restaurant.
How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you? I was surfing the internet looking for inspiration when I found an Asian inspired colorway. I thought it would look pretty cool and go with the theme of the menu.
