What did you learn?

I learned to harmonize all the skills I learned during this semester, it was interesting to mix colors, typography, photography and shapes.

What was easy?

For me the easy part was about choosing the theme of each stamp. For this project, I chose France, where we see mostly the city of Paris. Then, I chose Food with Macaron, Architecture with L’Opéra Garnier, Tourism with le Château de Versailles and the theme Fashion.

What was challenging?

The challenging part was to find the color palette I wanted for each stamp but also, mostly it was finding the organization of each element in each stamp. It took me a while to be satisfied with my work. I couldn’t really sketch the project, I had to see the assembly directly on Figma.

How could your submission be improved?

I think I could improve the Food stamp, I am satisfied with what I did but I have the feeling it could be better. Maybe I could improve by taking more inspiration.

How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

I don’ really see a way the professor could gave improve the assignment, the instructions were very clear and we were working with concepts we already knew.

How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

This project was an opportunity to put into practice all the notions I learned in order to make an interesting composition, so I am sure I will be able to reuse what I learned in future jobs.

For the Fashion stamp, it was the Vogue magazines, the fashion shows in Paris but also the designer’s sketches.

What did you learn?

It was my first time working on typography so it was really interesting. I learnt a lot about the details that typography offers, like how we can transmet a message with a certain style of writing: like repeating the same writing pattern to create harmony in the design or create a certain mood and feeling.

What was easy?

The easiest part of the project was adding details to the original design of each frame, I just came with ideas and the realization was rather simple.

What was challenging?

The challenging part was to design each frame because it requires a lot of creativity to come out with something interesting and visually impactful.

How could your submission be improved?

I think my submission could be improved by looking at other typography projects, not only this one, but looking at use of typography in daily life to be inspired and not to restrict myself.

How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

I think the typography class was really complete, we saw several examples and I learnt a lot about this subject, therefore I don’t really have any specific recommendation.

How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

In the communication field, typography is a useful skill when knowing how and when to apply it therefore I am sure I will be able to use it for professional reasons but even for making better presentations.

Thanks to this project I learn how to create pattern on Figma and on illustrator. Plus, I learn how to create a composition of only one subject with multiple elements on photoshop, like erasing a part of a picture to make it fit to an other picture and create just one. I also learn how to brainstorm efficiently to end with a concept.

What was easy?

Creating the pattern on sigma with icon was pretty easy, the use of the plugins was intuitive and simple.

What was challenging?

For me, the challenge was more about finding the best metaphors to work on. I had difficulties to come out with one metaphor at least. I was at the same time inspired by the one I chose but either they were too popular or I was not satisfied with their representation.

How could your submission be improved?

Maybe I could improve my submission by enhance my pattern for my metaphor or play more with the light of the different pictures to make it more realist.

How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

I found helpful that we materialized the metaphor ‘Time is money’ in class, but maybe if we would had done a more complex metaphor it would have been easier to picture how to create the metaphor.

How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

It is an interesting and helpful skill to know how to create pattern especially in communication and marketing fields which is what I study. Therefore, I believe I will use those knowledges when creating post, brochure or e-mail.

• What did you learn?

I learn how to use color a correct way, I have always had some difficulties with associating colors together, so learning about the color scheme was really useful. I already had some knowledge about the chromatic circle so I was not lost art first, and then I learnt about the different color scheme. I also discovered more about the use of ‘hex’ with the saturation, brightness…

• What was easy?

It was easy to understand the different color concept and to apply them to create the landscapes, even more because I already had some experience with Figma.

• What was challenging?

For me choosing the right combinaison of color was the challenging part. The desert landscape and the extraterrestrial one were the most challenging landscapes because of the color scheme. I chose analogous colors for the desert desert, which were yellow, yellow-green and green, and the difficulty for me was I wanted to create more figures but I was restricted with its three colors and their variations. About the extraterrestrial, it was more about the theme itself, I wanted to go bigger on it but there were things that were not how I wanted them to look like.

• How could your submission be improved?

If I work better on the association of color along their scheme I could maybe improved my submission.

• How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

I really appreciated how we worked at the same time all together on the landscapes. It was truly helpful that the professor created landscapes during the class, to somehow have models.

• How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

Knowledges about colors association, color scheme and how we can create news tone from a first color are some useful skills that I will be able to apply when I will create website, business card or just colorful project.

Before this project, I had never used Figma so for me it was a first experience with this software. Moreover I knew a little about gestalt principles, I saw the figure/ground example of the faces and the vase, but the project has taught me a lot. In fact, it has helped me with the conception part.

What was easy?

Using Figma was quite easy, the basics commands are simple and the software is quite clear in its presentation of its options. We are not lost among multiple tools of which we don’t know the usefulness. Figma proposed the necessary for creation without being limited. It is a good software to begin digital graphics and learning the basics.

What was challenging?

For me the challenging part was the conception part. I have some ideas where I find myself in trouble when designing them, either there do not come out the way I wanted them or during the conception I have some issues while create them. Also, for this project we have to use basics forms and I was struggling with making interesting designs. Therefore I tried to improve my first designs to make them a little bit more elaborated and a little less boring.

How could your submission be improved?

I think I have to work on my ideas realization. Maybe spending more time on my sketchbook could help me go further to the essentials of my design and help me with its conception. In addition, I need to work on the placement of the design in the frame to make it more intriguing.

How could the professor improve the assignment in the future?

I know we have seen together with class, other students projects, but it could be great to view more of them all together. These are the old students’ project, on various rythmes, that allowed me open my reflection on my project. Moreover, these projects showed me some aspects of Gestalt Principles, and how to apply them, that I had not thought about. Thus, it gave me a better understanding of what was expected of me and made the instructions clearer.

How might you apply you knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I think I could use my knowledge about gestalt principles in future presentations to make them look more attractive by catching the attention of those who watch it. Also Gestalt Principles are everywhere, so knowing how to apply them can be useful when being in internships. For example in my last internship I had to create a website, or add new categories to an other and I think If I knew how to use Gestalt Principles it would have been easier.

How did a specific reading, video pr example inspire or help you?

The presentation of https://martyblaketeaches.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/gestaltprinciples-lo.pdf helped me picturing more clearly some Gestalt Principles, it shows many examples for every examples thus I was able to visualize principles more broadly. Moreover, I took a look at some projects made years before and it had allowed me taking a step back on my own project and inspiring me. Especially the Itsy Bitsy Spider project.
