Give it a view!

This Episode Changed Amethyst Forever

Breakdown of work done for client.

I worked with a content creator focused on analysis of animated tv shows and movies, along with indie animated projects. Her content is focused on delving deeper into the storylines present within these shows, as well as using visual elements form the shows in order to give her audience a new perspective.

During this project I acted as an advisor and editor, Assisting with video direction and compilation. The main focus of my assistance was on the animations between scenes alongside the titling of the video and thumbnail creation. This aspect of the video worked great, racking up over 100K views in just over 3 weeks, making it one of her most popular longform videos posted.

I designed keyframe animations and transitions to keep viewer attention and collaborated on thumbnail development. We started from a rough basic image and iteratively enhanced it for to make it pop.

This project has resulted in a contact to work together over the summer, where in I will fully take over the editing of her longform content to allow a more frequent upload pattern, alongside allowing her to have more time to spend improving her shortform videos that make up a majority of her posts.

This collaboration sprouted from my knowledge of editing through courses and independent work, and her hobby as a content creator. I have assisted and taught her things before but decided that we should finally actually collaborate, and the result was better than we could have hoped!

Project 1: TODO app ../2024/02/15/project-1-todo-app/ Thu, 15 Feb 2024 23:35:08 +0000 https://comdma.com/palmisa2/?p=103
  • What did you learn?

I learned more about how to set up a UI in a way that makes sense to the user and translates to a smooth user experience.

    2. What was easy?

Getting an initial design down, I had an idea of what I wanted to do from the work I did during Lab 1.

    3. What was challenging?

Making the UI as natural as possible. Making sure that that the transitions make sense to the average user and not just me as the creator.

    4. How could your submission be improved?

I could have done more polishing to the aesthetics and a bit more changes to optimize the user experience.

I would also want to potentially add labels under the footer; however, I would want to use user testing to determine if it is necessary or it introductory prompts would work more efficiently.

    5. How could I improve the assignment for the next class?

More examples of demo apps that inspiration for different UI elements could come from, looking at different applications I use commonly for inspiration was extremely helpful.

    6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I can apply the knowledge of starting to create a user-friendly UI to make applications or design UI for different use cases.

    7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

Looking at apps like Spotify/TikTok and different websites approaches to different pages helped and inspired me a lot.

    Project 5: Summative ../2023/12/14/project-5-summative/ Fri, 15 Dec 2023 04:03:39 +0000 https://comdma.com/palmisa2/?p=82 1. What did you learn?

I learned how to combine multiple lesson I learned throughout the semester, along with letting my creativity make 4 different variants of a singular prompt.

    2. What was easy?

Coming up with my original ideas, as I had been playing through Hogwarts legacy, and making stamps for it seemed like it would be cool.

    3. What was challenging?

Finding a variety of different areas and locations that worked well together in-order to represent my chosen topic well.

    4. How could your submission be improved?

More tweaking on the edges between the different images and making the H more visible in my 4th stamp.

    5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

I enjoyed this project and can’t think of much to improve it.

    6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

When creating this project, it took a lot of preparation to get all the images and think of the layouts, this experience can benefit me when future projects require planning.

    7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?
My playthrough of Hogwarts legacy and another fictional location being brought up led me to think of doing it as my location, as well as the control over the images I had, as I could go around the area myself to find angles and images.\

    PICTURES OF PROJECT

This stamp is my favorite of the ones I created, the contrast in color and environment while still being over water gives them a really cool effect. The ability for it to be flipped is also really cool to me.

Probably my second favorite one, as I always love monochromatic images. The blend between the images and font allowing the image behind to shine through I really like as well.

This is the first one I did and the one I took the most inspiration from the example one. I feel like this is the one that could use the most work.

This one easily took the longest and I believe is the most unique. lining up the words was difficult and making it look consistent and not off took a lot of tweaking. I believe this one’s main issue is that the H isn’t immediately seeable, but takes a second to see.

    Project 4: Typography ../2023/11/21/project-4-2/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 15:11:48 +0000 https://comdma.com/palmisa2/?p=68 1. What did you learn?

About the variability of text, and the difference between multiple different texts styles, like sans or sans serif.

    2. What was easy?

The initial design came relatively easy, but I did change they layout from what i had in my sketchbook.

    3. What was challenging?

Finding the fonts that got the message across I wanted, or when I found one the lack of variability was a bit unfortunate.

    4. How could your submission be improved?

More small tweaks to position and size, I was pretty happy with how it turned out.

This frame especially I feel I could have spent more time to get some of the spacing and positioning a but better.

    5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

Maybe more fonts given as potential uses, as the variability of fonts was cool to tweak but I didn’t know too many different ones that allowed for a lot of variability.

    6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I can use my new knowledge of typography to make future text within projects seem more in tune with the rest of my project, and make my text seem more natural.

    7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

I don’t think I was inspired by any specific reading or video, however the talks in class about Roboto flex definitely inspired the path I went along with how I approached my text variability.

    Project 3: Image ../2023/11/02/project-3-image/ Thu, 02 Nov 2023 20:12:21 +0000 https://comdma.com/palmisa2/?p=64 1. What did you learn?

I learned more about the process of combining images and attempting to make them seem natural.

    2. What was easy?

I found most things in the project to be challenging.

    3. What was challenging?

Utilizing photoshop and making it look how I wanted, I also had a lot of difficulty thinking of a metaphor and figuring out how I wanted the aspects of it to look.

    4. How could your submission be improved?

More customization of the scale of things and further tweaking of some blending and other aspects.

    5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

More examples of paths you could take this in.

    6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I can better adjust and modify images to make their combinations look more natural.

    7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

I forget exactly what it was from but seeing the metaphor “hit the books” is what gave me the idea in the first place, on top of talking about JJK with friends.

The character hitting the books is Yuji from Jujitsu Kaisen, specifically from the manga, *kinda like comic books*, and the color scheme is black and white to represent the common black print on white pages that books use. This is also why I went with a character from manga due to its similar usage of black and white. I tried to find a background that incorporated a sort of pattern with all the books in it.

    Project 2: Color ../2023/10/14/project-2-color/ Sun, 15 Oct 2023 01:25:18 +0000 https://comdma.com/palmisa2/?p=56 1. What did you learn?

I learned more about colors and how you can change and match them. I also learned and became more familiar with Figma and making things like vectors alongside utilizing them.

    2. What was easy?

The choosing of colors for my specific landscapes

    3. What was challenging?

Creating depth and making them look engaging while also not cluttered as I like going for a very minimalistic style.

    4. How could your submission be improved?

I could definitely spend more time on my Tropical frame as I had some difficulty actualizing my concept for it.

It is definitely my weakest one and the one I had the most difficulty with, I want to try and potentially improve it more as I learned a lot from my work on my other landscapes and could definitely better portray what I was originally trying to go for.

    5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

I liked the layout of the project, don’t really have any complaints.

    6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I can utilize my experience gained in making perspective and color schemes to be more efficient and better put forward my ideas.

My last frame and the one I’m most proud of how it turned out, as I was able to apply some of the things I learned in my other frames to improve how it looked.

    7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

Seeing other people’s work inspired me a lot and gave me ideas on what to do and how to potentially do it.

    Project 1: Layout ../2023/09/21/project-1-layout/ Thu, 21 Sep 2023 18:57:45 +0000 https://comdma.com/palmisa2/?p=50 1. What did you learn?

I learned about the gestalt principles how to apply them. I also learned that there are specific design crimes that i should try not to commit.

    2. What was easy?

It was difficult to apply these principles to the ideas I came up with at first without it feeling forced. There was also accidentally using several different principles in areas I did not intend to.

    3. What was challenging?

Portraying everything the way I wanted only using black and white while trying to ensure I wasn’t making any design crimes. Especially because I had forgotten about it at first and utilized shades of gray initially, which forced me to change my design when I remembered.

    4. How could your submission be improved?

More time spent on how I could apply different gestalt principles and make what is occurring in the scene visible.

    5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

I personally liked this project how it was.

    6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

if I am to do any designing, I will now know the principles to making or portraying specific principles.

    7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

No specific reading or video inspired me from the class, but the art style of limbo inspired me to a degree as I liked the creepy vibe it was able to portray with a similar color palette.

The Basic structure of the character with only an outline and their white eyes was sort of what i was going for with jack and jill, mostly black bodies with a single white feature to highlight the darkness.
