1. What did you learn?

In this project, I learned on making an Infographics Map of what we wanted to pick with using Adobe Illustrator. The map I chose to do is the Canisius College Campus. I also learned on how to make the roads and labeling them by creating a legend or a key for the symbols of what it represents and where it goes. Plus, we learned how to make a banner. We also used the symbols from the Warped Text Lab.

2. What was easy?

The project was a bit easy when we put the labels to where it needed to go and picking the colors from the colors palette that we found online.

3. What was challenging?

The most challenging part of this project was using the pen tool to make the roads and switching between the fill and the stroke to make the roads with the lines in the middle.

4. How could your submission be improved?

One of the ways this project could be improved is putting more bright colors into the map to make it more presentable and maybe put in more roads on the map.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

What the professor could do to improve the assignment for the next class is maybe do a practice before going into the project so we know what to do and use the practice as a reference to fall back on.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I would use the notes and tools that I learned in this project because this was a learning experience for me and would use this in a job setting of some sort.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

Seeing the powerpoint and seeing some of the maps that Professor Dunkle showed us from the previous students gave me something to work on as to how I’m going to design my map.

Project 3 Reflection – Monday 4/4/2022 ../../../2022/04/04/project-3-reflection-monday-4-4-2022/ Mon, 04 Apr 2022 21:12:46 +0000 https://comdma.com/schnei28/?p=47 1. What did you learn?

In this project, we learned how to design a package from 2D Graphics to 3D Graphics by designing: A milk carton. We outlined the logo, designed our coffee cup and mug, adding labels, and adding a description to our carton.

2. What was easy?

Some of it was easy when it came to outlining the logo which was Byrne Dairy Milk.

3. What was challenging?

The challenging part of this project was doing the swirls and trying not to overlap them. Plus adding the color that I wanted to put in to the swirls. Also designing the coffee cup and adding color texture.

4. How could your submission be improved?

Add some more color to the swirls and more color to the coffee cup/mug. The swirls I could have done better.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

To improve the assignment for the next class, I would go a bit slower because I was having a bit of trouble catching on.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

To make it more fun when doing a project like this because this was a learning experience for me.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

What inspired me in this project was the reading on designing, drawing it out, and putting background swirls to add them and adding color to the coffee mug and cup.

Lab 4 – Removing Backgrounds ../../../2022/03/07/lab-4-removing-backgrounds/ ../../../2022/03/07/lab-4-removing-backgrounds/#respond Mon, 07 Mar 2022 14:11:17 +0000 https://comdma.com/schnei28/?p=40 Which method did you prefer? Why?

I used the pen tool with doing the banana to connect the points because I wanted to get rid of the background and leave the banana in the brick background.

Which method was the hardest? Why?

The pen and the direct selection tool because when doing the banana it was hard to pin point to curve the picture. It was really stressful.

How could you improve your masks?

What I can improve my masks is to really practice on the tools like the pen and the direct selection tool. I want to really learn more and not try to stress out.

I had a picture of my housekeeping cart to use for this project and there was a screw where the legs of the cart hold together and I used the alt key and target the area that I wanted to clone and use the healing brush tool to cover up the marks that can look like it wasn’t there to make it look even better.

  1. Why is it important to save the .psd?

The reason it’s important to save the .psd is because you want to save the work that you created with while you retouched the image plus if it needs to be changed, you can go back into your files with Adobe Photoshop and fix the image to make it look better.

Project 2 Reflection: DMA 212 – 2D Graphics -3/7/2022 ../../../2022/03/07/project-2-reflection-dma-212-2d-graphics-3-7-2022/ ../../../2022/03/07/project-2-reflection-dma-212-2d-graphics-3-7-2022/#respond Mon, 07 Mar 2022 14:00:04 +0000 https://comdma.com/schnei28/?p=29
  • What did you learn?
  • In this project, I learned about Image Compositing and Screensavers. In class, we reviewed in Adobe Photoshop on the Marquee and Lasso Tool, Magic Wand, Pen Tool/Vector Mask on pinning the object to put it in the background, command-click/pull a selection, selecting inverse, and applying as layer mask. Also, we reviewed on what keys to use instead of using the menu dropbox. We used our photos that we used in Project 1.

    2. Was it easy?

It was a bit easy for me because there were photos that I want to use for this assignment and what amazed me is that I can use mask my picture and use the cookie label and use a selection that says Threshold and also use the menu in the Layers section to use like: Multiply, Dissolve, Normal, etc.

    3. What was challenging?

The challenging part of this project was using the pen tool to pin the picture that you wanted to select and try to line it up with the object to get rid of the background around the object.

    4. How could your submission be improved?

There are a couple of things that my submission could be improved: 1. I could have make the background color more flare and make it look fantastic and 2. Maybe I could’ve have started a new one to make it more colorful and make it picture perfect.

    5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

I would like to review one more time on the background color and make the background color look more cooler and also review the key tools in photoshop.

    6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

By continuing to learn and review the tools and the computer keyboards on saving, and how to use the pen tool and gradient tool.

    7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

What inspired me the most was using a picture of my grandparents from Project 1 and used it for a background and to use the multiply tool, made a big difference.

    2D Graphics – Lab 1 Reflection – 1/26/2022 ../../../2022/02/09/2d-graphics-lab-1-reflection-1-26-2022/ ../../../2022/02/09/2d-graphics-lab-1-reflection-1-26-2022/#respond Wed, 09 Feb 2022 13:54:55 +0000 https://comdma.com/schnei28/?p=13
  • What is the image size and pixel dimensions of the unsplash photo and your photo?
  •               My photo – 20.6M Dimensions – 4000px x 1800px

                  Unsplash photo – 68.7 M Dimensions – 4000px x 6000px

    2. Compare your photo with the one from Unsplash. What are the differences? Is one “better quality” than the other?

The difference between my photo and the photo from Unsplash is that the lighting is good, the texture looks like it was dim like a homey atmosphere and it was used by a professional photographer. With my photo, the lighting is good, I took on a angle that I can make it look professional. The Unsplash photo has better quality than my photo because they used a camera that has the features that they can toggle with.

    3. Why do people use resources like Unsplash?

They would like to use Unsplash so they can buy professional photographs for businesses, public announcements, etc. They want to see how photographers use certain frames and color for their photos to look fantastic.

    4. Why might someone avoid “stock” photography?

They would not want to pay certain amount of money to buy the photographers photos they took and uploaded them online. That someone would like to pay for the photos at a reasonable price.

    5. What are some problems or imperfections that you see in the photos you took? Why do you think these occurred?

For starters, when I took the photo of my housekeeping cart that I use for work, I was laying on my stomach and arched my phone to try to get a good angle to take the photo. The reason that I think this occurred is because, I tried to capture a good picture but I believe that I could have taking my cart to like the 1st Floor of Old Main and do the same thing as the one I took.

    DMA 212-A-Project 1- Reflection – Wednesday 2/9/2022 ../../../2022/02/09/dma-212-a-project-1-reflection-wednesday-2-9-2022/ ../../../2022/02/09/dma-212-a-project-1-reflection-wednesday-2-9-2022/#respond Wed, 09 Feb 2022 13:45:55 +0000 https://comdma.com/schnei28/?p=9
  • What did you learn?
  • What I learned in Project 1 was how to create a Portfolio for the project, take 16 images and use them to create like a theme and to use Adobe Photoshop to retouched by using the Levels and Curves and to save them in the Project 1 Folder, cropped the photos and save it to the thumbs folder, saving the photos in a .psd format, and replace the images that Professor Dunkle had with my own pictures, and also learned how to scan photos and retouched by using the gray card to make the picture look better than the original.

    2. What was easy?

It was a bit easy because you are getting yourself familiarize with how to do retouching, cropping, and saving it to the desktop or to your USB drive. I like how I retouched a wallet size photo of my grandparents that survived going through the washing machine and to make it look better which I’ll admit, I was surprised that it came out looking better than it was before.

    3. What was challenging?

The challenging part of this project was that I was stressing out on how to retouch it, saving it, and to put where it goes into a folder in the file on my USB drive. It was a bit confusing but after having talking with Professor Dunkle, it was becoming a bit easier.

    4. How could your submission be improved?

I think I could have done better on how to make the pictures more perfect and to save them in the correct folders.

    5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

For improvement in my opinion, to maybe do some clarification on some parts of the project, and I felt it was going to fast and I was starting to get really stressed out.

    6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

To look at the project descriptions more carefully and to understand it better and if I have a issue or a question, then I’ll talk with Professor Dunkle and he can steer me in the right direction.

    7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

With looking through the PowerPoint presentation, what inspired me and helped me was scanning and retouching an image like the a old photo or a $2.00 bill, and or using a wallet size photo of my grandparents. It’s so amazing on how you can really tell the difference on how the pictures look just by using Adobe Photoshop.

The original picture of my friend Jess and the dog for the portrait.
