Reflection:

  • What did you learn?
    • I learned how to use the live paint bucket, how to do different strokes on lines (dashed, solid, double lines, etc.), and how to make a banner.
  • What was easy?
    • It was easy picking my color scheme since I picked it out for one of our labs. I liked the colors, and I knew that I wanted to have the ability to have a range of dark and bright colors that would pop out.
  • What was challenging
    • It was challenging picking the location for me to do my map on. I had a lot of ideas of where I wanted to base mine on, but I couldn’t find all the locations in one area that I was familiar with.
  • How could your submission be improved?
    • I could improve my submission by maybe labeling the subway lines. I didn’t do so in this project because some lines do have more than one train running on them, and I didn’t want the map to look too clustered since a lot of my symbols are already close to each other due to it being the city.
  • How could I improve the assignment for the next class?
    • I don’t think anything needs to be improved for the next class.
  • How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?
    • I’ll apply my knowledge in the future by using the live paint bucket as a first resort instead of trying to make individual objects/sections and filling them in when the paint bucket is much easier and faster. I’ll also keep in mind the steps we learned to make our banner in case I want to make one for a future project or job to make a nice title or banner to present to my peers.
  • How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?
    • I used our class session videos and examples given in our PowerPoint slide as inspiration and help for me to complete this project. The examples in the PowerPoint slide helped me decide on what location to base my map on and what my symbols should look like. I looked at what other students did and decided what kind of look I wanted to go for with my theme. Our class session videos helped a lot when it came to learning how to do the basic things like making dashed lines, the scale, and the compass.

Project 3: Packaging Design ../../../2021/04/26/project-3-packaging-design/ ../../../2021/04/26/project-3-packaging-design/#respond Mon, 26 Apr 2021 05:03:54 +0000 https://comdma.com/barracoc/?p=110 Packaging:

Reflection:

  • What did you learn?
    • I learned how to design packaging while using a template, so I can properly place all the elements of the design. So when it is printed; and the package is constructed, it turns out how it’s supposed to. Along with that so nothing gets cut off, and everything is sized correctly.
  • What was easy?
    • It was easy knowing how I wanted my coffee cup and my background design to look. I already had the design and colors planned ahead of time.
  • What was challenging
    • It was challenging folding the paper into a carton because I didn’t have an Exacto knife to score the dotted lines, which would have allowed me to fold the paper easier.
  • How could your submission be improved?
    • To improve my submission, I could change the way I cut and folded the paper to turn it into a carton. At the top section, the folding is rough since so many pieces had to be folded in that small area.
  • How could I improve the assignment for the next class?
    • I don’t think anything needs to be improved for the next class.
  • How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?
    • I’ll apply my knowledge of working with templates and placement of specific elements to future work scenarios, so everything that needs to be seen is in the correct position at the correct size.
  • How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?
    • The demonstration in class not only helped me come up with design ideas but, it helped me with assembling the carton. I also looked at the Byrne dairy website to look at how to write an “our story” statement that would go along with the message the company was giving to their customers.

Project 2: Screensavers ../../../2021/03/24/project-2-screensavers/ ../../../2021/03/24/project-2-screensavers/#respond Wed, 24 Mar 2021 07:37:53 +0000 https://comdma.com/barracoc/?p=102 Screensavers:
Mobile/Portrait

Reflection:

  • What did you learn?
    • I learned how to use gradients to get rid of the edge of pictures that we do not want to see instead of using the pen tool. When using a gradient to incorporate a different photo or object into something that is already there, it makes it feel like one piece instead of several different things stacked on top of one background. It also makes the photo look like there’s some depth to it.
  • What was easy?
    • It was easy creating the cloud and texture backgrounds. When I found colors that I thought would go well together, I knew where I wanted the clouds to appear. With the textured background, when I found a textured area in my photos that was good enough, the rest was easy.
  • What was challenging
    • It was challenging using the pen tool to cut out the body of minnie mouse because the curve pen tool was harder to work with. I had trouble figuring out how to use it but eventually got it to work.
  • How could your submission be improved?
    • I think my submission could be improved if I had a photo that could have been the whole background because I happen to favor those kinds of looks. None of my photos would have worked for that because a lot of the photos I took focused on a specific object with the same white background.
  • How could I improve the assignment for the next class?
    • I would say maybe more time or just introducing the project earlier so people can think out what photos have the potential of making a good screensaver.
  • How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?
    • I will apply all the tools and techniques I learned for the future. Like the making of different backgrounds and the different tools like the pen tool and gradients for future work. I can see myself using the gradient tool often to hide edges of photos because I like the look of it being one with the background instead of sitting on top.
  • How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?
    • “The Vision (Orpheus Scene)” by F. Holland Day from the website https://mashable.com/2015/02/19/before-photoshop/#vus4SDGxaGqb helped me with a vision for my project. I liked how even though there are several different pictures layered on top of one photo, the way everything is blended looks like one photo. Everything is blended, to the point you can not see the edges of when a new subject/photo begins. The photo almost looks like it has some depth or layers to it with all the different subjects. So I wanted to accomplish something similar to that by using the gradient tool.

Project 1: Portfolio ../../../2021/03/07/project-1-portfolio/ ../../../2021/03/07/project-1-portfolio/#respond Sun, 07 Mar 2021 09:18:11 +0000 https://comdma.com/barracoc/?p=89 Pictures:

Here are some of my favorite pictures that I took

Reflection:

  • What did you learn?
    • I learned how to effectively edit photos to make them look presentable and how to present them in three different forms; normal size, thumbnail, and print. I also learned how to manipulate the look of a picture through the “levels” and “curves” adjustment tools.
  • What was easy?
    • It was easy to edit all the photos, upload them to our web portfolio, and it was easy to make them be able to be in print format.
  • What was challenging
    • It was challenging when taking photos to make sure the quality was good and the settings on the camera were correct so I can have decent photos to edit.
  • How could your submission be improved?
    • I think my submission could be improved if there was another area in my house that gave me enough natural sunlight to take photos so, not all of them had the same background.
  • How could I improve the assignment for the next class?
    • I do not think there is anything that can be improved on your end.
  • How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?
    • I will apply my knowledge of what I learned in the future with how to overall; edit photos so they look good and how to have them be presented in print and digital format. I feel like my editing skills improved with this project because I took the time to go in and change the little things that I normally wouldn’t be able to change with a quick edit on my phone.
  • How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?
    • I was inspired when thinking about what my environment has been for the past year. It has been my room and has only been my room. I wanted to show some of my favorite things/things that have brought me comfort or kept me busy this past year.

Lab 1-DMA 212 ../../../2021/02/13/lab-1-dma-212/ ../../../2021/02/13/lab-1-dma-212/#respond Sat, 13 Feb 2021 08:32:09 +0000 https://comdma.com/barracoc/?p=85
  • Compare your photo with the one from Unsplash. What are the differences? Why is one “better quality” than the other?
    • The photo I got from Unsplash is of a boxer, and the photo I took is a picture of my boxer. The picture from Unsplash is the one with better quality. The reason being is, my photo doesn’t have good lighting, the background is busy, and it was taken on my iPhone X, which doesn’t have the best quality after having it for two years. The Unsplash photo is deemed better quality because it has a plain/not busy background, the dog is in better focus, and the lighting is consistent. Another difference I came across while looking at the two was when zooming in; mine became pixelated in fewer zooms compared to the Unsplash photo. Although you can’t see it far away, you can tell that the one taken with a higher quality camera is better.
  • Compare your photos with the snapchat version. What are the differences? Why is one “better quality” than the other?
    • First, looking at the 3d object photos. I took a photo of this flower on Snapchat and my regular camera with the flash on for both. The one I took on my regular phone camera gave me a larger range of what to do with lighting, like focusing it on the center of the flower when Snapchat didn’t. For the regular camera one, it allowed me to focus on a specific point. The Snapchat one did not allow that. The one taken on the regular camera is better quality because when zooming in on both the Snapchat photo got pixelated faster than the regular photo. When zooming in, the color for the regular camera photo was much better; compared to the color on the Snapchat photo.
    • For the drawing photos, I found the same differences as above. On top of that, the flash distribution between the two was not the same.
    • Lastly, for the magazine photos, I found the same differences but for overall photo quality, the regular phone camera was good where the words on the ad were clear. But the words on the ad in the Snapchat photo were blurry. The color difference is also big compared to the two different cameras.
  • What could you do to improve the quality of the images acquired by each method?
    • I could try and go into photoshop and mess with the exposure, contrast, warmth, saturation, shadows, and highlights to fix the coloring issues. With the blurry issue, I can try and smooth out the areas that need it.
