This lab taught me the basics of programs such as Adobe Animate and Adobe Premier. I also learned that by tracing over already written letters it will give them movement which I found very cool. These can be useful tools that I may use later in life whether for classes, videos for family and friends’ special days (weddings, bridal showers, etc), and even future jobs. It was easy to come up with my idea, shoot my pictures and videos over the last few weeks and get them all on my computer. I also found it easy to use garage band and make up a fun sound to match my video once the program began to work. It was challenging to get all the videos, pictures, motion graphics, and Garage Band sound into Premier and edit it all together to flow well. I think my submission could be improved with more skills and knowledge of the programs as well as learning better angles for shooting videos in a horizontal view rather than vertically. For the next class, I think more background on the basics for editing in premier would be helpful. I could use this knowledge to make informational videos for future class and work assignments. This semester while in quarantine I often had to use IMovie to edit and submit practical videos and Premier seems like a much better editing platform so maybe in the future, I can use it for an assignment like this. Watching sunsets has also been a passion of mine that I enjoy doing especially in the warmer weather. I was also inspired to blur the sides of the vertical videos/pictures by various premier tutorials I found, this helped the video to flow better and look more professional.

Maya Chess Piece ../../../2021/04/26/maya-chess-piece/ ../../../2021/04/26/maya-chess-piece/#respond Mon, 26 Apr 2021 16:31:26 +0000 https://comdma.com/gotroh/?p=19
During this project, I learned many of the basics and tools involved in designing with MAYA. I learned how to change the texture to wood, gold, etc, and display that in render from various angles. I also learned and tested out many different shaping tools. The basics of this project were easy to understand and follow along but getting more precise details were difficult especially with the sculpting tools. I also did not have access to a mouse since I used my mac laptop. I think my project could definitely be improved and done more quickly if I had a mouse. I think my submission could be improved if I had more knowledge and practice with the different sculpting tools. I also could improve the lighting to make the renders portray greater detail I feel as though the gold gets kind of washed out. I could also play around with changing the colors of the piece to improve the final result. The step-by-step directions for MAYA especially the Lab 6 part were extremely helpful but maybe some more details on the sculpting tools can help improve the project in the future. When looking up various images of chess pieces to inspire me for my project I liked the idea of spikes on the top of the chess piece. My initial sketches and idea were to make an almost king or queen crown shape on the top of my piece. It also looks like it may be able to hold another object in the top now so maybe instead of a chess piece one can use the imagination and maybe see it as a candle or ring/jewlery holder.

Project 2 ../../../2021/03/25/project-2/ ../../../2021/03/25/project-2/#respond Thu, 25 Mar 2021 16:24:11 +0000 https://comdma.com/gotroh/?p=16 Continue reading Project 2]]> Throughout this project, I learned a great deal of Adobe Illustrator skills that can be useful in the future. It was easy to come up with my idea through a few inspirational monogram sites as well as my own brainstorming. This could be challenging at times since it was my first time using this program so it was a great deal of trial and error while rewatching many lectures and helpful critiques. I believe my submission would be improved by better spacing options for text in the case of vertical alignment, I got it as close as possible but it could always be more symmetric. For next year I think maybe you could do more initial basic skills videos on how to do various things but I think over the course of a few classes while you edited others, it helped me improve my knowledge and skills within the program, many of the tools you used on others projects I was able to implement on my own project. As basic of an answer as this sounds this can be extremely useful when I have my own practice or future job that requires a business card. I can also use my skills to create a company card or a business card for a friend. This is an extremely useful tool for the future. I have always drawn the H in my name with a tab to the left after my 3rd-grade teacher wrote my name that way and I liked it at the time and now it just kind of stuck. So while scrolling through google and dribble I found a similar monogram that was able to incorporate that idea. I also had some inspiration from Herb Lubalin’s logo that had the intertwined swirls to create the letters which I really liked. Over all aspects from various portions of my inspiration research combined with my personal creative ideas helps me to form my logo which I ultimately love for my first time using the program and creating my own business card.

Project 1: St. Patty’s Day Card ../../../2021/03/08/project-1-st-pattys-day-card/ ../../../2021/03/08/project-1-st-pattys-day-card/#respond Mon, 08 Mar 2021 18:22:57 +0000 https://comdma.com/gotroh/?p=4 Continue reading Project 1: St. Patty’s Day Card]]>

Throughout the process of creating this project, I have learned a great deal of beginner photoshop skills. Such as importing different fonts and images, typing on a path, creating foreground and background imagery, selecting various portions of a picture and using a layer mask, how to add different effects, especially outer glow on texts, and those are just to name a few. All of these useful tools allowed me to create a very unique, clean, and realistic card. Some of these tools were easier to use than others but for the most part, were extremely manageable given we could go back a rewatch lectures if we needed a refresher. The challenging portion of this project was how time-consuming perfecting every little detail was, especially typing on a path, to get the letters and text to not all be angled differently was difficult at times. I believe my submission could be improved by editing my inside border to be more continuous rather than 4 separate pieces. It took a lot of editing, cropping, adjusting, etc. to get it to line up and not have white gaps but I believe this could still be improved. To possibly improve the assignment for the next class we could have a list type of document of what we do each class might be helpful. The powerpoints with pictures and guides are very helpful but sometimes it can get confusing of what we did each class and what to add to the project when you’re going back on workdays, and having to rewatch a bunch of zooms. Similar to the list of what has to be in the project but more so each day type of thing, especially being online classes, they can get confused with one another. Otherwise, I believe any questions I had were answered and the lectures were very clear and easy to understand. I think the project could be improved by possibly doing more personal drawing and techniques on those aspects. Overall I really enjoyed creating and working on this project. The tools I have learned in his project can be extremely useful in other areas of my life as well, for example, these editing tools may help me make posters, flyers, or presentations needing graphics for other clubs I’m in or events I am planning. They can also be helpful when I make a business card or in my future profession. The article on the history of print and design really inspired me throughout my project. It is truly amazing how advanced our technology is and the amazing tools we have access to. Although I said that perfecting the details on my project was time-consuming it is nothing compared to what people have experienced in the past. Just a regular printed book in the past with little graphic design or imagery and mostly just type was a rare commodity that only the wealthy typically had. We now have access to thousands of fonts and images and colors with ease and almost anyone can create amazing designs and imagery.
