Serif: This font is serif because of the thin feet on the bottom of the letters.

Sans-serif: This font is sans-serif because it lacks the feet on the letters. One thing that stood out to me about this particular font was how the bottom of the “W” was rounded.

Blackletter: This font is blackletter because of its fancy design and sharp points.

Script: This font is script because it looks like cursive handwriting.

Slabserif: This font is slabserif because of the very blocky serifs it has.

Historical: This font is historical because each letter has small additions to it.

One instance of typography that caught my attention was this Goldfish packaging. The use of script lettering gives this package a fun and playful design. This is important because Goldfish are primarily marketed towards young children.

  • What did you learn? – I learned how to download fonts, create glyphs, and manipulate text in Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop, and Figma.
  • What was easy? – Downloading the fonts
  • What was challenging? – Manipulating the anchor points on the text was especially difficult when there were many points next to each other.
  • How could the submission be improved? – I felt that this lab was effective at showing the differences between the four programs. However, I feel that this lab could have gone a bit more in depth with each program.
  • How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments? – This assignment has given me a basic understanding of how to use text in Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop, and Figma. This knowledge will help me to create designs that require typography.
  • Typehunting Assignment:

One instance of typography that caught my attention was on this Oreo cookie packaging. This logo appeals to me because it is so distinct and easy to read. I also appreciate how the three-dimensional letters make the logo look like it’s coming out from the packaging.

    Name of app: Video Chess

In addition to being able to play chess online, this app would give players the option to see each other over video calls, interact with each other in a live chat, and use emotes. The purpose of this app is to allow players to experience their opponent’s reaction despite not being in the same place.

    User stories:

    1. Creating an account

Once users open the app, they will be given the option to create an account. They will have to submit information such as their name, email, and password. They will also be able to create a username and submit a profile picture.

    2.   Logging in

On the first screen of the app returning users will have to log in with their username and password. In the scenario where they forget their password, they will be given the option to reset it.

    3.   Playing chess

Once 2 players have connected, they will share a virtual chess board. While playing each player will have the ability to share video and see each other in real time.

    4.   Live chat

If players decide not to share video, they will have the option to speak to each other in a live chat during the game.

    5.   Adding contacts

In order to add friends, users will be able to search for other players usernames or send friends an invitation through email or text.

    6.   Emotes

If users decline video chats, they will still be able to react to what is happening by clicking on emotes. The opponent will then be able to see the emote in game.
