  • What did you learn?

In this project I learned how to create die strikes and image bleeds in order to optimize projects for print.

  • What was easy?

The easy part of this project was organizing the type for the menu and table tent in Adobe InDesign.

  • What was challenging?

The challenging aspect of this project was understanding how the digital design would translate when printed.

  • How could your submission be improved?

My submission could have been improved if there was less empty space on the inner right side of the menu. I also feel that some of the images could have been larger.

  • How can the professor improve the assignment in the future?

I think the assignment could be improved by making the table tent and menu two separate assignments.

  • How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments?

By doing this assignment, I have learned a lot about creating designs for the purpose of print. This knowledge will definitely be helpful for when I have to create future projects for print.

  • What did you learn?

I learned how to create a useable font with Fontstruct.

  • What was easy?

Fontstruct itself was very intuitive and easy to use.

  • What was challenging?

It was challenging to create letters that had diagonal sections such as “N” and “K”.

  • How could your submission be improved?

My submission could be improved if I used more grid space for each letter.

  • How can the professor improve the assignment in the future?

I think the project is fine as it is.

  • How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

This project will be very useful if I ever have to create my own unique font again.

  • How did a specific reading, video, or example inspire or help you?

It was very helpful to keep in mind where the base line and x height were.

  • What did you learn?
  • In this project, I learned how to design and prototype an app in Figma.

    • What was easy?

Overall, I found it to be relatively easy to use Figma’s prototyping feature.

    • What was challenging?

The most challenging part was figuring out what needed to be on each page and where to place each object.

    • How could your submission be improved?

I think that my submission would be improved if I added more filtering options to the statistics and message pages.

    • How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I will use the knowledge I learned about operating Figma for future assignments.

    • How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

“Similarity Principle in Visual Design” by Aurora Harley showed me the importance that consistency has in helping users understand an interface.

This project taught me that a portfolio can say a lot about a person simply through the grouping of images. The easiest part for me was editing the images in Photoshop. The most challenging part of this project for me was obtaining images that all related to each other. I decided to get images of objects that I had in my room. I think this submission could be improved by only using images that have significance to me rather than including any objects I found.

  • I learned how to use Gestalt principles to enhance my designs.
  • The easiest part for me was coming up with the designs.
  • The most challenging part for me was figuring out how to create the design I was imagining  in Illustrator.
  • My submission could be improved by making more consistent margins.
  • The assignment may be improved in the future by making each frame demonstrate a different Gestalt principle.
  • This project gave me a better understanding of how to use Adobe Illustrator. I will apply what I learned about the program as well as the Gestalt principles to my future assignments.
  • A specific video that inspired me was the “Design and Discovery” Ted talk by David Carson. His talk showed me that small changes to a design can make a large impact on the way that a design is perceived.
