DMA 212 Project 4 Blog Reflection

In this project I have learned how to draw symbols and use the symbol sprayer tool to spray the symbol at your desirable spot, the shifter tool, the scruncher, spinner and the spinner. I also learned how to make roads using the pen tool, and the skills we covered from lab 8 helped me to do the country banner. It was easy and fun to do the project as a whole. From the project I ever worked on from my dma classes, this project is one of my favorite projects. I really enjoy doing it. If I just had enough time, I will for sure make it more beautiful and complex. The only challenge I experienced is that I did the project twice because I deleted the project by accident when it was 90% done. Therefore after 12am, public safety granted me access to Lyons Hall in order to redo it. But as I mentioned that I enjoy doing it, it didn’t hurt much to do twice. As I remember, at the beginning of the semester I couldn’t use the pen tool properly and after I finished this project I realized that it helped me improve a skill I was having a hard time with.

In this project I have learned how to make patterns using the spiral tool, making shapes using the arc, pen, and curvature tools with Illustrator. I also learned how to export the file as a cardstock but unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to print it. It was easy to make the pattern and arrange it, designing the container in short was easy. However the logo I made from lab 6 when I brought it into the project wiped out some parts of it. I have tried to copy and paste it several times but it was just not working for me. But the good thing is that the way it broke my logo inspired me to do “Olive and Coffee” as labels. I believe my submission could be improved if I could print the project, because it was the only thing I was curious about but didn’t have much time to do it. This knowledge can be used in future assignments and work scenarios obviously when designing containers, but also the skills we learned helped develop our skills to design in general with Illustrator.

My project symbolizes the coming down of Adam and Eve on earth. In here I learned how to use texture from my own photos to make them cloud and texture pattern background. I also learned to remove background from image by using quick selection tool. The whole process was easy. However the only thing I found challenging was the pen tool. I have enjoy doing this project and I think I need to practice using the pen tool more in order to improve my submission. We might apply the knowledge of using texture from images to make background in future assignment because it is very creative and somehow unique. and the knowledge of removing background from image can be utilize in work scenarios when doing flyers and/or editing photos like graduation pictures.

In this project I have learned some scanning, adjusting, retouching and cropping methods using Photoshop. I also learned how to export images in different formats and different versions large and small. It was easy to scan, retouch crop and export the images. However it was challenging to print the portfolio. I modify the name of the files multiple times according to how it was named in the page source but it was not just working. My submission could be improved by cropping the images more so that the thump version could be square instead of rectangle images. This knowledge can be apply in future assignment and work scenarios because it is useful when enhancing images quality and also sometimes you can be in a situation in which images sizes play a role and it will be helpful to know how to export in smaller or bigger version without reducing image quality.
