What did you learn?
I learned how to use Photoshop to a somewhat decent level. I never previously knew how to use Photoshop, and I’m glad that I now have some understanding of it.
What was easy?
I found manipulating images through cropping and effects to be fairly straightforward.
What was challenging?
I struggled with using layer masks at first. I also found it challenging to draw a text path that I wanted and that didn’t make the text look cluttered.
How could your submission be improved?
I could have added backgrounds on the inside of the card to give those pages more life rather than using a standard white background. I also could have given the back of the card a better design.
How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?
I would have liked to see the labs be directly related to the project. It would be nice to work on a lab, and in doing so, be making progress on the project, rather than doing a something separate.
How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?
In future assignments or work scenarios that involve artistically creating something, I now know to make sure that every part is similar in terms of imagery and general content. No one part should look empty compared to other parts.
How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?
I didn’t refer to any readings or videos other than the lecture videos, but when some other students shared their card designs, it helped me realize that I needed to add more imagery to the inside of my card. I was also inspired by one of those designs to use smaller images in the corners of one of my pages to make it look full.
