  1. What did you learn? I learned a lot more about the tools available in illustrator. I think one of the most valuable tricks I learned was how to scale the logo down without the lines getting too thick.
  2. What was easy? I was very intimidated by this project at firts, but it was not as difficult as I thought It would be. I actually struggled more with the lab where we recreated the logo for this project.
  3. What was challenging? Honestly the most challenging part was cutting and folding the paper to produce the final product. I realized during my first attempt that a lot of my elements were too large, so I went back in and made everything. bit smaller. I think the logo is still a bit too big. I think I could probably still make everything a bit smaller so more of the cow patter shows.
  4. How could your submission be improved? Again, I think the logo is too big, and perhaps all the elements are a little too big and not enough of the pattern shows. The logo on one side of the carton is also being cut off a bit.
  5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class? I cannot think of anything. This was a fun project.
  6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios? I could see using these skills to create or improve upon things like logos in my area of work.
  7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you? All the demonstration videos were helpful for completing this project.

Prpject 1 Questions

1. What did you learn?

I learned a lot during this project about how much you can change the appearance of a photo with a few simple adjustments. I probably could have done less with some of them but I was really experimenting with the different tools. I could have done a better job of cropping some of the photos. I think i left too much extra space in some of them. I was trying to keep the 2/3rds rule in mind but wasn’t necessarily using it in the right manner.

2. What was easy?

I would not say that it was easy, but I very much enjoyed using the healing brush and the stamp tool to remove unwanted things such as outlets on the wall or to remove blemishes from the skin.

3. What was challenging?

I am still struggling with removing and replacing backgrounds. Picture 16 could certainly use some improvement and is clearly fake. Something else that I find challenging is understanding the difference between some of the tools and adjustments. For example adjusting levels seems very similar to me as adjusting the brightness? I don’t quite understand the subtle differences or when it is best to use one adjustment or tool over another. I need to do some additional research / reading to understand that.

4. How could your submission be improved?

I think I may have done too much to some of the photos. Less might be more but I was experimenting. Again I could have done a better job of cropping both the full image and the thumbnails for the web portfolio.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

Perhaps going more in depth regarding what I mentioned above, understanding the difference between those adjustments or tools that seem to have similar effects on the photos.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

These skills will definitely serve me in my work as I work a lot with creating marketing materials and managing website contact. I now have some additional skills to optimize photos for both print and the web.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

All the demos you provided in class helped to give me some ideas about what I might do with my photos.

Observations

1. Compare your photo with the one from Unsplash. What are the differences? Why is one “better quality” than the other?

The Unsplach photo is much better quality than the one I took with my iPhone. You can see the detail of the plant as well as the knitted fabric behind it much better.

2. Compare your photos with the scans. What are the differences? Why is one “better quality” than the other?

The photos are of much better quality than my scans. I have a pretty cheap / low quality printer / scanner at home that I used. The scans did not capture the vibrancy of the colors and they are very grainy.

3. What could you do to improve the quality of the images acquired by each method?

I do not own an actual camera but I am sure one would capture better photos than my phone. I could use a larger and higher quality scanner. I could try to use an app for my phone that captures more raw images.
