I’ve used the software a little bit but not really much outside of messing around on my ipad. With this assignment and the earlier lab 7, I kind of understand now how difficult music production can be. The video editing was the easy part for me. I’ve used imovie a ton just for creating little movies and edits of stuff i like, so the compiling and basic transitions were simple for me. I didn’t have access to premier, as I was unable to get into the labs and recently erased it from my computer, but the most challenging part for me again was garageband. On mac, it’s an entirely new interface and I had to free up storage to re-install and update it. I feel my submission could be improved with simply the footage I took. I highlighted some moments from the lacrosse trip to Manhattan, but I definitely feel I could’ve put more time into capturing cooler shots. The emotion I chose to capture was Curiosity, as this was the first time me and many of my teamates have been to the Bronx, and played in a playoff game. The trip was full of uncertainty and new surprises, and nobody knew how long we were going ti be on the road. We learned a-lot along the way, and our mindset going into the trip was that it was like a business trip. That’s why I called it “Business Trip Curiosity”. For the next class maybe you could have the students interview someone in the movie, or add other dramatic effects and content other than just what was captured on video. I will continue to make and publish video content and movies at it is one of my favorite things to do with my friends and I’d even consider it to be a passion of mine. I like to just use youtube when I am learning new softwares, so for garageband, youtube was a big help.

Project 3 Robbie Marten ../2021/04/27/project-3-robbie-marten/ ../2021/04/27/project-3-robbie-marten/#respond Tue, 27 Apr 2021 01:52:31 +0000 https://comdma.com/martenr/?p=35 Continue reading Project 3 Robbie Marten]]> After completing project three, I learned a few things. One obviously I learned a new program in blender, but I also learned the process of rendering 3d models of objects, and learned about the game design process. I definitely have a lot of respect for these game devs who build hyper realistic models and renderings after getting more familiar with their process. For me, the easy part was the actual modeling process, in deciding where to put the points and how I would change my original design to something a bit more fun. The challenging part was in the actual placing of the points. I had to get used to using the G key shortcut, and I kept getting confused with the process of adjusting my paths laid down. I feel that my submission could be improved if I made my sculptures a bit more symmetrical. I decided to make my pawn a bit of a UFO, and I added spikes on the bottom so the pawn could smash the other pieces it goes near when it lands on them. I think that the project could definitely improve on maybe asking for a more challenging or in depth model to be made, maybe a rook or even a queen could have been a fun challenge. In future scenarios, I can definitely see myself being creative how I was in this project to come up with a fun idea as an iteration to spice and change things up a bit. I actually watched a video on youtube about game development software, as it is something i’ve always been interested, and it helped me in my creative process in choosing to collide worlds of science fiction by adding an extraterrestrial element to my original chess piece. I saw a game dev change something so classic and traditional into something super innovative and new and it just gave me the idea of trying something creative.

Robbie Marten Project 2 ../2021/03/24/robbie-marten-project-2/ ../2021/03/24/robbie-marten-project-2/#respond Wed, 24 Mar 2021 19:03:23 +0000 https://comdma.com/martenr/?p=30 Continue reading Robbie Marten Project 2]]> After completing my second project for this class being the creation of a brand or making my business card, I actually learned a-lot of new stuff about the vector arts. First off, on my laptop I have here at school I do not have illustrator, whereas normally for vector or logo related tasks I would just use my pc at home, so instead I had to download and use Figma. I love Figma. I had to learn the program from scratch and it was extremely easy to pick up and begin scaling. I learned more about the scaling process in the sense of the points, and where to look at the points of my art and how to manipulate them to scale everything better. For me, the initial design process was easy, and it didn’t take me long to get my rough shape out of what I was going to create. I decided to play with my colors a-lot, changing about three or four times the theme I was going with, but it was all made very easy for me with the user friendly face of Figma. Something I struggled with was adding new shapes and really getting everything to look proportionate and like it belonged on my card in the area it was placed. I think my submission could have been improved maybe by adding additional graphics or even effects. My card I believe is a very clean design, fairly simple, but straight to the point. Maybe I could’ve added some additional shapes or elements to make my card design more dimensional. I think for the next class maybe we could do more on the back of the business card kind of like the holiday card we did. That might be fun. I will apply what I learned in future assignments definitely and also in future work scenarios whether that be in creating another monogram logo or even something like a flyer or poster. Vector graphics are extremely useful and practical in the every day world. It is also just really good to be fluent in as many programs as possible as it makes you more valuable. A specific reading that helped me was actually a video on youtube I watched about the design process and the idea of keeping things simple. Clean lines, small details, consistent flow with maybe a little something extra to catch the eye, etc.

Robbie Marten Project 1 ../2021/03/08/robbie-marten-project-1/ ../2021/03/08/robbie-marten-project-1/#respond Mon, 08 Mar 2021 20:08:36 +0000 https://comdma.com/martenr/?p=4 Continue reading Robbie Marten Project 1]]> In the process of completing project 1, and working with photoshop to make my holiday card, I learned a-lot more about the intricacies of working with photoshop to create a professional looking print. I’ve used photoshop before many times to create fun images and whatnot but this was the first time i’ve used my skills to actually print a physical copy of something in a higher quality with good resolution. For me, the actual design process was fairly simple but I had difficulties in the printing. I struggled with formatting my design to cover the entire page, when I would open my .pdf file of the card in acrobat the designs would only cover about a quarter of each page and I couldn’t resize to fit the whole page. Eventually I figured it out however as I was able to resize the images in a different program. I think that my submission could be improved maybe by just a more creative greeting or concept as a whole. I think that I could’ve made my card more eye-grabbing and reactive definitely. I think the professor could improve the assignment for the next class maybe by having the students use a bit more tools in photoshop or even just requiring them to make them use a few different design techniques to further enhance the card if possible. I will apply the method of tying on a path definitely in the future when I work on assignments and I will also make sure that I have do more adjusting and testing in regards to my printing. The wikipedia reading about print design helped me figure out what my cover design was going to be because it talked about the use of a stamp and I figured I’d use a leprechaun to act kind of as a stamp and emboss it a bit to make it stand out like a 3D element almost.

Here are the images of my final printed card. Thank you!

W.I.P pictures; these were the results of the difficulties I was having when printing and had to work around. I was mainly having sizing issues.
