Project 4- Indesign

For this project, I wanted to make the magazine theme technological and futuristic. The theme here is tech innovations. I put a lot of geometric shapes and used fonts that were clean and edgy.

Project 4: Make a magazine for Quadrangle using InDesign.

Blog Questions

1. What did you learn

I learned how to use the paragraph settings on InDesign to make your file much more organized and cohesive.

2. What was easy?

The easiest part of this project was choosing which fonts to use. I already knew what type of fonts matched with the tech theme I was going for and searched them up on Adobe Fonts.

3. What was challenging?

What challenged me the most during this project was ensuring my paragraphs were consistent and formatted correctly. It was very difficult at first to categorize each text but later realized how much easier it made the rest of the project go.

4. How could your submission be improved?

My submission could be improved by having a better layout for my images. I also made some pages black by creating a shape and arranging that to the back so my text could be displayed on it. I feel like I could’ve done some things in different ways I just didn’t know how to.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

The professor can tell us to prototype it more beforehand. I understand this is a more type-heavy class as opposed to designing but I feel like we should do projects that are also design-heavy using InDesign.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I will use what I learned from this class when I get a job because you use InDesign a lot in the industry and now that I have a better understanding of it, my knowledge will help me out.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

I had trouble numbering the pages so this video helped me

Project 3- Hip Hop Typography ../../../2023/11/27/project-3-hip-hop-typography/ Mon, 27 Nov 2023 04:50:35 +0000 https://comdma.com/radekam/?p=206

From this project I learned about graffiti and how typography was heavily influenced in it.

The easiest part of the project was designing the poster. I already had a vision of how I would layout my text.

The most difficult part was finding a font similar to the font artist I researched about. However I found similar ones on the website Behance.

My submission could be improved with more if I made the poster look a little bit more rugged since it is in the hip hop era.

The professor helped me find resources I needed for this assignment, I would say to give the same resources for the next class so they can find fonts.

I will apply my knowledge of this type of font when it comes to making posters or social media posts.

For this project I had to research about the font. These are some articles that helped me.

Project 2: Movie Titles ../../../2023/10/19/project-2-movie-titles/ Thu, 19 Oct 2023 05:17:40 +0000 https://comdma.com/radekam/?p=194

I learned how to take a simple title and create it into something extraordinary with simply its letters.

The easiest part of this project was brainstorming which movies to pick and how I would use the Title to represent the movie.

It was challenging sticking to only black white and grey colors. I think that colors make a huge difference when trying to express something.

My submission is at its peak. I would improve it by creating a different version of the Lorax. I think my submission was too complex.

I would really like to do a project where we take letters or words and create a portrait with them. This project is along the lines of that concept.

I will use my knowledge in future scenarios by thinking creatively. Even just with letters, I made such an intricate piece of art.

I really enjoyed this article because I feel like people don’t consider words to be considered as art but it’s about how you express it. Words and art are both forms of expression and combining the two makes a powerful piece of art.

Types of fonts found in the Cemetery

SERIF FONTS

As you can see these are all serif fonts because they all have serifs.

CELTIC FONTS

As you can see these are Celtic style fonts because there is multiple decorative elements and ornaments.

SCRIPT FONTS

As you can see these are script fonts because they look like they were handwritten.

SAN-SERIF FONT

These are sans serif because they have no serifs or other accents to the letters. It’s plain and consistent throughout it’s whole shape.

OLD ENGLISH FONTS

These are classified as old English fonts because the way they emphasize the serifs and the Capital letters have decoration elements to them as well.

Project 1 Typography ../../../2023/09/20/project-1-typography/ Wed, 20 Sep 2023 18:10:45 +0000 https://comdma.com/radekam/?p=156

This is the font I created using Fontstruct.com.

I learned about different types of fonts differentiate from each other. I also learned how to use the website Fontstruct to create my own font which was very exciting.

I think the easiest part about this project was learning about the types of fonts. I really liked the history of serifs, san serifs, monospaced, etc.

The most challenging part about this project was creating the font. The website had very limited shape and you had piece them together very specifically for it to look nice. I went through many trails in making this font. This was a font I made up called “kirby.” As you can see it was very inconsistent and I had trouble navigating the shapes and piecing them all together.

I could improve my submission by using a different software for making the font. I feel like using a brush tool on photoshop would’ve been easier than using fontstruct.

I think the professor can give us other alternatives on where we can create the font in.

I can apply my knowledge in future assignments because now if I want to personalize posters and campaigns I can create my own font for it!

Project 1 ../../../2023/03/03/project-1-2/ Fri, 03 Mar 2023 15:34:16 +0000 https://comdma.com/radekam/?p=132 DMA 370 Music Player App Prototype

https://www.figma.com/file/Ulxnpdxm5MHGqefKpvuVEL/Project-1-dma-370?node-id=0%3A1&t=9b0sPTPVQulozcKH-1

1. What did you learn? In this assignment I learned how to make a better organized app. If you start off with a master page it makes the rest of the pages easier to adjust when you need to fix it.

2. What was easy? The easy aspect of this project was to brainstorm an idea for the app. I took into consideration apps I already use and take those elements and expand more for my own app.

3. What was challenging? The most challenging part of designing and protyping the app would be the auto layout function. Sometimes it would work perfectly and other times it would mess up the layout of my app.

4. How could your submission be improved? My submission could have been improved if I had put aside more time as well as making the footer and header stretch horizontally when you scroll throught the music player.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class? The professor did a wonderful job explaining the assignmnt and helping me when I had trouble with making the auto layout.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios? I might apply my knowledge in future assignments/work scenarios when needing to brainstorm or making a app. Now that I understand different app themes and layouts (ISM’s) I will have a better understanding for when clients want a specific layout for an app.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you? A video that inspired me is the album Astroworld by Travis Scott. I was listening to that song on that album and I got inspired to make a outerspace themed music player. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2W2c-ct1W4&ab_channel=SOULDEEP

8. Show some images of your work in .jpg or .png format. Include sketches, work in progress, and final images. If your work is interactive or video, post a link to the project.

  • What did you learn? I learned how to make a app that integrates interaction with video.
  • What was easy? The easy part of the project was editing the videos on Adobe Premeire. I never used that software before so I thought that was nice.
  • What was challenging? Making the interactions for the prototype was the most difficult part for me. The whole variants was really hard to time. And I would find Figma glitching as well. I didnt create a path for something but it took me there anyways.
  • How could your submission be improved? My submission could be improved if I timed the graphics a little better.
  • How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class? The professor could’ve made us use premiere to edit the videos. Figma’s way was very complicated and I really disliked it.
  • How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios? I will apply my knowledge of importing videos from adobe premeire, and uploading videos to figma. I think thats a very important skill to have when doing Augmented projects.
  • How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad79nYk2keg&ab_channel=Simplilearn this is a youtube video that talks about AI. Its really informational.

  • What did you learn?
    • I learned how to organize texts and colors in a more visually appealing way.
  • What was easy?
    • It was easy trying to put text alongside with pictures because I had a good idea on what could fit where.
  • What was challenging?
    • It was challenging for me to find the right stock pictures and texts that are nice as well. I used Unsplash and used a variety of texts in each stamp.
  • How could your submission be improved?
    • I can improve my submission by adding more images. I took a simple route with my images and left it at one because I think stamps aren’t supposed to be that crazy since it is a small piece of paper and it can end up looking really cramped
  • How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?
    • The professor can find better plugins for cute icons and texts. I think a plugin that would have nice little cartoonish stickers would meld well in this project.
  • How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?
    • I will apply my knowledge in the future assignments by using the plugins we used. For example, Coolers is a great plug in to find color schemes and I used it for finding colors that mesh well with each other.
  • How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?
    • https://www.thoughtco.com/history-of-stamps-1992419 This article about the history of stamps was very inspiring.

    1. What did you learn? I learned how to use the rule of thirds when formatting words that are typed in different styles.
    2. What was easy? The easiest part was finding the fonts and which style texts would mix well with each other.
    3. What was challenging? The most challenging part of this assignment for me would have to be the rule of thirds. Where to put the words, how small or how large should I keep the texts.
    4. How could your submission be improved? I think I did really well with my submission. The only improvement I can think of is to fix up the pattern for one of my frames. I used a plug in to experiment and I couldve took more time and whited out inside the bubbled texts.
    5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class? The professor did a good job on explaining the project and how to get around it all. No improvements necessary in this department.
    6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios? My knowledge of fonts may come in handy when it comes to making logos or making anything that requires texts.
    7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you? https://www.supercars.net/blog/all-car-brands-a-to-z/car-logos-all/ This website was really inspirational when working with texts and fonts.
