  • What did you learn?
  • In this project, I played with realism in a way I never really had before. I wanted to make my logos for the cans look like they could really be there. Messing with the image and trying to make them all look they were part of the same brand.

    • What was easy?

Coming up with the concept and picking the colors and alliteration to go along with it. The original sketch ideas came pretty easy as well.

    • What was challenging?

Drawing and using a lot more shading in my art then I’m used to.

    • How could your submission be improved?

Adding more color variety, especially for Heracles Harlequin. Could’ve added more highlights in general. I’m always scared to add to many highlights and I need to stop that

    • How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

Greek Mythology is the inspiration and the designs mostly come from already existing myths

Project 4 – Map Infographics ../../../2020/05/11/project-4-map-infographics/ ../../../2020/05/11/project-4-map-infographics/#respond Mon, 11 May 2020 22:40:15 +0000 https://comdma.com/rice16/?p=126 For this project we created maps in illustrator for certain locations. I did Pioneer Camp & Retreat Center which I worked as a camp counselor for 2 years and went as a camper for over 10. The place is closing in 2021 so I figured doing it for my map would be a fun way to cope. I learned how to manipulate shapes, like the circle, and warp them, like the banner. Switching to different layers was difficult and I often ended up putting objects of layers I didn’t intend to. I think I would’ve like to make the map more abstract rather than as accurate as it is and make all the objects facing one way with shaping. However I decided the best way to fit all the objects is to put them exactly where they are. Making larger projects like this is a good skill to know when it comes to illustrator and I feel doing this project has helped me prepare for bigger things in the future.

214 – Project 4 ../../../2019/12/05/214-project-4/ ../../../2019/12/05/214-project-4/#respond Thu, 05 Dec 2019 18:53:13 +0000 https://comdma.com/rice16/?p=34 For this project we used text and color schemes to create stamps for a specific location.

I did Ancient Greece because I thought I could have fun working with this myths and creating what maybe what we would have seen at the time if they had stamps. I was inspired to do this because of my obsession with classics and a recent podcast I’ve been listening to.

I learned typography tactics which were really fun to learn and how to fit the letters in a way that were aesthetically pleasing. Also, working with the previous color knowledge to make the stamp look good rather than an eye sour.

It was challenging sometimes to see spacing problems in the letters or try to find the best way to make it look even. However, I think it was do to my inexperience with changing type and it was easier to find problems the longer I worked on the project, though I’m sure I still missed some things.

Coming up with the original idea as easy as well as deciding what colors I want for each the different stamps.

The third stamp, the Gods, I feel could definite be improved. It loos overall more cartoony in a bad way, but I like the lightning bolt across the middle and like the overall design. I’m not sure how to fix it, but it could use work.

typography itself is really useful skill to have and I really enjoyed doing it. creating posters, working on art, or promotional material could use this kind of knowledge and I would love to do things like that.
