Project 5 final
Project 5 Sketches
  1. What did you learn? I learned how to edit photos from the photo plugin to produce a more creative looking photo that I can use for my stamps.
  2. What was easy? The easiest part for me was picking which photos I wanted
  3. What was challenging? The challenging part of this projects was having to redo it because I previously used the original photo instead of changing it.
  4. How could your submission be improved? I would’ve loved to use text in a very small font that was faded in the background, I saw some examples of students doing that, and it looks like a very realistic stamp, although if not done right, can be distracting.
  5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class? Nothing. 🙂
  6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios? Looking at my other classmates’ submissions and past students work really helps me get an idea of what I should be doing. I love that you give us those examples. they give me motivation to be more creative in my future work, because there’s always someone who’s doing it better than I.
  7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you? The demo’s from the slides helped me figure out how to work with photos and make them creative to me and my art form.

To Kill Time: Final Submission
Love Is Blind: Lab Submission
Sketches for Love Is Blind
Sketches for To Kill Time
  1. What did you learn? In this project, I learned how to use different plugins, which allowed me to upload my pictures and make my background pattern. I also learned how to photoshop specific pictures, and remove their background.
  2. What was easy? The easiest part of this project was creating the pattern in the background. I enjoyed making these patterns because I could be creative and make it how I wanted it to be.
  3. What was challenging? The most challenging part of this project was finding good pictures to use. The plugin I used did not have good pictures for my project. It took forever to find a shattered clock the way I wanted it to look. I also found it difficult to find hands that looked right to use on my hearts. This is why they each only have one arm, holding hands.
  4. How could your submission be improved? I’m not exactly sure if this is needed, but i feel like my clock and knife being right in the middle of the page looks a bit awkward. If I used the rule of thirds it would look more pleasing to the eye.
  5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class? Professor Dunkle provided me with the correct tools for this project, and did a very good job at explaining how to photoshop and use the plugins.
  6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios? I really enjoyed making the patterns, so I hope I am able to use this in another future project. It is a easy way to make your project that much more exciting.
  7. How did a specific reading or video help you? The links you provided under content in regards to photoshop helped me learn how to combine images and crop or chance individual images.

PROJECT 4: COLOR ../2022/11/16/project-4-color/ Wed, 16 Nov 2022 23:33:21 +0000 https://comdma.com/santora4/?p=36
  1. What did you learn? I quickly learned that typography was not as easy as it looks. This project made me learn to be more organized and meticulous about small details.
  2. What was easy? The easiest part of this project was deciding which fonts to use. At first, I tried using several fancy and unique fonts, but they ended up being very distracting. From looking at my classmates’ work, I quickly learned that in this project, basic looks better.
  3. What was challenging? The most challenging part of this project was getting all of the different size words to fit in a perfect rectangular shape, without stretching any of the words. Abstaining from stretching the words was by far the most difficult part of this project.
  4. How could your submission be improved? I am pretty happy with my submission, except for frames 1 and 5. They both contain the phrase “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”. I found these slides difficult because it was the shortest phrase, so i found it difficult to make the frame look creative.
  5. How could the professor improve the assignment for next class? As usual, Professor Dunkle provided me with all of the tools I needed to complete this project. The slides are very easy to follow along with, and I like how he goes over my classmates’ projects in class, because he gives great feedback which improves my own work.
  6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios? In this project I learned that sometimes being basic looks more pleasing to the eye. Especially in graphic design, you don’t want designs that are so vibrant and distracting that it frustrates the viewer, and makes them lose sight of what they are really looking at.
  7. How did a specific reading or video help you? This may not be a reading or video, but when looking at the slides, I like how Professor Dunkle mentioned the game Tetris. I had the game in my mind the whole time I was creating my project, just to make everything fit perfectly. Reading about spacing in typography helped me make my work more legible and organized.

Project 2: Color ../2022/10/13/project-2-color/ Thu, 13 Oct 2022 20:38:42 +0000 https://comdma.com/santora4/?p=27
Urban

In my first picture, Urban sky, I used complimentary colors purple and yellow. I felt as though purple fit best for a night sky.

Seascape

For my second picture, seascape, I wanted all of the creatures to be placed in one area so that is where the main focus is. I used triadic color theory to get a nice sea blue/green, but also add some bright colors for the sea creatures.

Arid Desert

Arid desert: I used split complimentary color scheme, and the colors are kept warm to get the feeling of a sunset.

Outer Space

Outer Space: I used split complimentary color scheme, so I can have a basic blue background, with many vibrant colors to my advantage.

  1. What did you learn? I learned how to use different fills, such as radial and linear, and how to use the shapes to my advantage more. For example, I now know how to create a dotted line, which I used to create my windows in the urban setting
  2. What was easy? The easiest part for me was creating the general picture. For example, I had no trouble creating the sky and buildings for my urban picture, but the windows messed me up because they were not all angles correctly.
  3. What was challenging? A very challenging part to this project was getting detail in. I am still figuring out the basics, so I found it difficult to get very creative, and personalize my pictures more.
  4. How could your submission be improved? Adding more detail, personalizing each picture to my liking more.
  5. How could the professor improve the assignment for next class? No improvements, I like how you went into detail for each slide you did.
  6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments? I will use radial and linear fills more to my advantage for each shape, and adding more variety/detail to skies. (clouds, sun, birds).
  7. How did a specific reading or video help you? Watching the professor add his own detail into his work inspired me to be more creative with my work for our next project.

Project 1 Reflection ../2022/09/20/project-1-reflection/ Tue, 20 Sep 2022 20:58:07 +0000 https://comdma.com/santora4/?p=8 Mia DMA214

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

For my first frame I decided to use proximity to single out one star, to put emphasis to our subject.

How I Wonder What You Are
How I Wonder What You Are

For my second frame, I used closure and continuation. The circles leading to the star allow the eye to travel to the though bubble easily. I wanted to keep the star black, but used closure so that you can see the bubble.

Up Above The World So High
Up Above The World So High

For my third frame, I used continuation to lead the eye up to our biggest star, the subject of the poem.

Like A Diamond In The Sky
Like A Diamond In The Sky

For my fourth slide, I wanted to keep it simple, but this time the star is a diamond in reference to the rhyme.

Twinkle, twinkle little star
  1. What did you learn?

I learned quickly that even though restricted to only a few shapes, I can make different figures, such as a diamond out of two triangles, a trapezoid out of a rectangle, and many other shapes to add something extra to my story.

2. What was easy?

I think overall this project was easy because I had a simple rhyme that I was ready to create a design with because of my sketches.

3. What was challenging?

The most challenging part for me was having to align my shapes into my grid so that there is a focal point. This became difficult at certain points because I like things in the center, but a center focal point is a weak one.

4. How could your submission be improved?

I struggled with being creative in this project because we are so limited with shapes we can use. Now that I am used to Figma a little more, I can draw my sketches more according to the project.

5. How can the professor improve the assignment for your next class?

Personally, I liked how the professor went through each students frames and gave them advice on how to better improve our strategies, and even demonstrated how to each student. Even while listening to his critiques to other students, it allowed me to improve my own designs.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I want to expand on my frames by creating better, more understandable scenes. I think my work is simple, but I also want to learn how to get more creative.

7. How did a specific reading or video help you?

Reading about how simple these graphic designs may be really helped me not go over the top. As an artist, I quickly realized that graphic art and painting/drawing are very different. If my designs have too many shapes, they look too chaotic.
