What did you learn?

In this final project, we apply our knowledge to create a project that embodies the four components of graphic design. The result will be a series of postage stamps that showcase your knowledge of layout, color, image and typography. For this project, I did was the movies of Sir Sean Connery as James Bond 007. I did the locations, the gadgets, and the villians from the movies.

2. What was easy?

The easy part of this project was finding the right pictures of Sean Connery as James Bond and finding the couple of locations that was used in the movies for example: London where MI6 is located and Jamaica where the first movie was being filmed.

3. What was challenging?

The challenging part was putting in the right colors and trying to make the top part of the frame a color and the bottom part a different color and making the text bigger and smaller to fit in the bar that I have almost in the middle and finding what layers did this go into.

4. How could your submission be improved?

What I should have done to make my submission be improved, was to maybe had another frame of locations of the Bond movies to make it more surreal because there were other locations that was used in the movie.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

To improve the assignment for the next class, I think Professor Dunkle show us more on the Pass Through and Overlay and how it can be a more effective way to show us to make our stamps look better.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

For this type of project, maybe do more research on the location aspect of this project and how it can fit into this to make it more effective.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

Looking at the past projects that the previous students did really got me thinking of several different choices to do a stamp summative.

Project 4 Reflections – Typography – 11/16/2023 ../2023/11/16/project-4-reflections-typography-11-16/ Thu, 16 Nov 2023 14:06:50 +0000 https://comdma.com/schnei28/?p=181 1. What did you learn?

In this project, we learned about Typography and learning how to use Typography by using different fonts like Roboto Flex and EB Garamond. We created a story from what we used in Project 1 like Jack and Jill or Itsy Bitsy Spider, etc.

2. What was easy?

Some of it was easy like coming up with different fonts that we can use in the frames and trying to make the text bigger and making sure it fits in the frame.

3. What was challenging?

The challenging part of the project was, trying to put the words where they needed to go because it’s like a game of Tertius and separating the words to making it bigger (some of it was easy).

4. How could your submission be improved?

I could have chosen some more creative fonts to make the submission be better and more appealing and add more pizzazz.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

For the next class, maybe show some student examples from the previous semesters and do reference off from what the students designed.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I would like to continue a little bit more on using Typography and how I can use it in relations to advertisement, making flyers like say the Digital Media Arts and Advertising Development Club (DMAAD) and how I can make Typography more effective and useful.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

The videos that Professor Dunkle showed us and the YouTube video that I watched and looking at the PowerPoint on the different uses of the fonts.

Project 3 Reflection – Images – 11/2/2023 ../2023/11/01/project-3-reflection-images-11-2-2023/ Wed, 01 Nov 2023 13:36:57 +0000 https://comdma.com/schnei28/?p=167

My outline for Project 3.

James Bond martini glass on an old fashion weight shaker because 007 likes his martini shaken not stirred. Inside the glass is James Bond played by Sir Sean Connery, 007 watch, Aston Martin DB5 for when Sir Sean Connery drove in Goldfinger, and Thunderball, and his Walther PPK gun. The background is a pattern of Connery as Bond and the logo of the 60th Anniversary of the James Bond Franchise. The text that I put is: Sean Connery is James Bond 007 and on the bottom it says: Shaken, Not Stirred.

1. What did you learn?

In this latest project, we created a visual metaphor that we combined the images in a unique, surprising, and exciting way. We also learned how to create a pattern and the texture that we had to put into our design and also put in the background and lower the opacity.

2. What was easy?

This project was a bit easy because you know what you want to design and come up an idea and what pictures that you will be using.

3. What was challenging?

The challenging part of the project was coming up the idea because I wanted to do something that was not part of the list. The other challenging part was coming up with the metaphors that ties in with James Bond and how to design it.

4. How could your submission be improved?

To improve my submission, to put a couple more pictures that is associated with 007 to fit inside the martini glass.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

Maybe to go a little more in depth with how we can come up with a metaphor with the picture that we want to use and more mapping it out.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I would like to continue using my knowledge in future work scenarios with typography because it would be a good use for an advertisement prospect.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

When looking at the examples from previous students, it got me thinking about using something similar but I decided to use James Bond and sketch it out.

Project 2: Color Reflection – 10/12/2023 ../2023/10/12/project-2-color-reflection-10-12-2023/ Thu, 12 Oct 2023 13:10:09 +0000 https://comdma.com/schnei28/?p=146

1. What did you learn?

In our second project, we learned about Color and learning the how to set a mood with color. We discussed on how to use the fundamental color schemes, describe a physical environment with color and continued using the Gestalt principles we used in Project 1, we also learn how to established a focal point and get ourselves familiarized with drawing, color, gradient, and blending the colors using Linear, Radial, Angular, and Diamond.

2. What was easy?

Some of it was easy. For me, blending the colors in the frame by frame sequence like in the Urban City frame, it looked stunning with the sky back drop with the buildings in front of it as it became morning.

3. What was challenging?

The challenging part of the project was creating the cactuses in the Arid Desert frame and making the planet in the Outer Space frame.

4. How could your submission be improved?

What I should have done to make my submission more presentable was to add more planets in the Outer Space frame to give a more life life sorta speak.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

With a little more clarity, I could understand it better. Maybe more examples of other frames from previous years.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I would look back at the powerpoint presentations, class videos and relearn how I can make the project better.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

What helped me was when I looked at the video examples from the previous class from last Fall so I can give a sort of idea on how I would like my frames to be.

Project 1 Reflection – 9/19/2023 ../2023/09/18/project-1-reflection-9-19-2023/ Mon, 18 Sep 2023 20:27:52 +0000 https://comdma.com/schnei28/?p=110

My outline for my project frames.

My final outline of the project. Story of Jack and Jill.

First Frame: Jack and Jill.

Second Frame: Went up the hill

Third Frame: To fetch a pale of water.

Fourth Frame: Jack fell down.

Fifth Frame: Broke his crown.

Sixth Frame: And Jill came tumbling after.

1. What did you learn?

In our first project, we learned about Layout and the Gestalt theory. We discussed on how logos and storyboard on using: Enclosure, Similarity, Color, Repetition, Proximity, Closure, Continuation/Common Fate, Alignment, Figure/Ground, and Multistablity/Ambiguity. We also discussed on using the rule of thirds to line up our shapes and seeing if there was any “crimes” with the shapes. We did a storyboard with using Figma.

2. What was easy?

Some of it was easy. For me, doing the second, fourth, and fifth frame was easy to do as far as aligning the squares and using Jack to go up and falling down the hill with the arrows and breaking his crown using the figure/foreground.

3. What was challenging?

The challenging part of the project was outlining how to make Jack and Jill (that was one of the harder part of this project), doing the rule of thirds because, I’m not that good with Math and trying to have it inside the margins.

4. How could your submission be improved?

Do a lot more with outlining Jill so it can be easier for me to design her in the story frame.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

With a little more clarity, I could understand it better.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I would look back at the powerpoint presentations, class videos and relearn how I can make the project better.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

What helped me was when Professor Dunkle showed everyone the examples from past students work that made it a little bit more clearer to me.

ConnectLife Welcome/Login Screens and Profile
Locations: Williamsville, Southgate, and Tonawanda
Mobile/Nav Master, Entering ConnectLife Flow, and Charts
Signing In, Cubicle, and Registration Flow
Questionnaire and Physical Flow
While Donating, Check on Your Progress, and Snacks Flow

1. What did you learn?

In our final project, we learned about Augmented Reality using Figma to create an app of our choosing. As part of the project, we had to come up with a pitch of what we were going to design in our AR app and how many Flows we had to use.

2. What was easy?

Some of it was easy. For my AR app, I did ConnectLife Organ – Blood Donation serving Western and Central New York. The easy part was to take video of myself entering the facility, signing in, going to a cubicle, registering, questionnaire, physical, etc.

3. What was challenging?

The challenging part of the project was organizing the flow and putting the arrows to the appropriate frames. Another challenging part was when playing the flows, it didn’t turn out the way I expected to be and that created a lot of frustration and anger.

4. How could your submission be improved?

To take better videos and pictures and not make the video file pass 50mbs.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

How could it be improved for the next class is with a little bit more clarity.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I would look back at the powerpoint presentations, class videos and relearn how I can make the project better.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

What helped me was when Professor Dunkle showed everyone Adobe Premiere Pro to shorten your videos if it went pass 50mbs.

Project 2 – Web Design Reflection – 11/1/2022 ../2022/11/01/project-2-web-design-reflection-11-1-2022/ Tue, 01 Nov 2022 13:21:42 +0000 https://comdma.com/schnei28/?p=83 1. What did you learn?

In this second project, we learned how to create a mobile and desktop website using Figma. We also learned how to create swatches using a plugin to pick which colors we want for our background, using typography to create two headings with a different text font, and create a form for the placeholder for your name and for the comments section.

2. What was easy?

Some of this project was easy. I enjoyed learning about using the CodePen website to see how my website looked like by putting in codes. It was really interesting and informative.

3. What was challenging?

The challenging part was trying to fix the footer on both the Mobile Navigation and the Desktop Navigation when it came time to put the arrows to prototyping. As I was prototyping and scrolling on both the About (Mobile) and Resume (Desktop) the footer kept scrolling up.

4. How could your submission be improved?

I would put more pictures in my portfolio to make it more appealing to my target audience.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

I would go a bit slower because there times I was trying to stay the course with everyone but, it was difficult to catch up.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I would look back on the notes and the class videos to make sure I didn’t miss a step and maybe make a new mobile and desktop websites.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

The CodePen Lab was a bit helpful because I was seeing how my website would look like with using codes.

Project 1 Reflection -9/27/2022 ../2022/09/27/project-1-reflection-9-27-2022/ Tue, 27 Sep 2022 13:11:14 +0000 https://comdma.com/schnei28/?p=79 1. What did you learn?

For this first project of the semester, we learned how to create and run a prototype for a todo app using Figma and how you would you use your app. Also, we learned how to created a Button Label so when it came to prototyping the app, we can click or press on the button to go to the next slide or screen on the app we are designing. We also used icons for logins such as Facebook or Google and using their logo and used several icons by using Iconify in the Plugins section of Figma. We also used a website called Maze to prototype out our app and have other students, family members, and friends test it out too to see the results if they thought it was easy or difficult.

2. What was easy?

The project was a bit easy because you are basically storyboarding on what your app will be and it’ll be either for your health, sports, groceries, anything you want for your app to be.

3. What was challenging?

The most challenging part of this project was putting and dragging the noodles to the slides to where you wanted to go in your app. When it came to prototyping, it was stressful because as you were seeing if it works to your advantage, I was frustrated that I missed something and had to go back and figure out what I did wrong so I don’t make the mistake again and putting the noodles or arrows to the right place.

4. How could your submission be improved?

I could’ve maybe put more pictures or add some animations to make the app look more fun and appealing to my target audience instead of looking dull and not appealing.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

Give more clarification on the project. I was a little confused but, I was starting to get the hang of the project but maybe some more clarity would have been good too.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I would like to present this to my family because I would like to show them how I designed the app and how it functions and hopefully use it down the road for their own benefit.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

Just watching Professor Dunkle showing on creating the button label and how you can use the Alt. key to just copy it over to the next slide of section of the app and putting the arrows to show where it goes next.

Project 4 Reflection – 5/11/2022 ../2022/05/11/project-4-reflection-5-11-2022/ Wed, 11 May 2022 13:21:26 +0000 https://comdma.com/schnei28/?p=56

1. What did you learn?

In this project, I learned on making an Infographics Map of what we wanted to pick with using Adobe Illustrator. The map I chose to do is the Canisius College Campus. I also learned on how to make the roads and labeling them by creating a legend or a key for the symbols of what it represents and where it goes. Plus, we learned how to make a banner. We also used the symbols from the Warped Text Lab.

2. What was easy?

The project was a bit easy when we put the labels to where it needed to go and picking the colors from the colors palette that we found online.

3. What was challenging?

The most challenging part of this project was using the pen tool to make the roads and switching between the fill and the stroke to make the roads with the lines in the middle.

4. How could your submission be improved?

One of the ways this project could be improved is putting more bright colors into the map to make it more presentable and maybe put in more roads on the map.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

What the professor could do to improve the assignment for the next class is maybe do a practice before going into the project so we know what to do and use the practice as a reference to fall back on.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I would use the notes and tools that I learned in this project because this was a learning experience for me and would use this in a job setting of some sort.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

Seeing the powerpoint and seeing some of the maps that Professor Dunkle showed us from the previous students gave me something to work on as to how I’m going to design my map.

Project 3 Reflection – Monday 4/4/2022 ../2022/04/04/project-3-reflection-monday-4-4-2022/ Mon, 04 Apr 2022 21:12:46 +0000 https://comdma.com/schnei28/?p=47 1. What did you learn?

In this project, we learned how to design a package from 2D Graphics to 3D Graphics by designing: A milk carton. We outlined the logo, designed our coffee cup and mug, adding labels, and adding a description to our carton.

2. What was easy?

Some of it was easy when it came to outlining the logo which was Byrne Dairy Milk.

3. What was challenging?

The challenging part of this project was doing the swirls and trying not to overlap them. Plus adding the color that I wanted to put in to the swirls. Also designing the coffee cup and adding color texture.

4. How could your submission be improved?

Add some more color to the swirls and more color to the coffee cup/mug. The swirls I could have done better.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

To improve the assignment for the next class, I would go a bit slower because I was having a bit of trouble catching on.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

To make it more fun when doing a project like this because this was a learning experience for me.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

What inspired me in this project was the reading on designing, drawing it out, and putting background swirls to add them and adding color to the coffee mug and cup.
