What was easy: As I worked with Premier Pro before, it was very easy to know the techniques in how to input files and how to control the audio and visuals.

What was challenging: The creative aspect was the most challenging for me. I took snippets of where I lived and tried to incorporate that in a ‘calming’ tone.

Work In Progress

How could your submission be improved: I wish the music would fit in with my images. It seemed too active for the theme of ‘Calm’. Overall, I think I did well.

How could the professor improve the assignment: I think this project I a good evaluation of what we learned for the past couple of labs, and how to combine them all together for an organic project.

How might you apply your knowledge: I would like to work in film, so this editing project has valuable information and techniques for me to know.

How did a specific reading or video inspire you: I was inspired by my surroundings and the color scheme of my location would mix well with the ‘calm’ title animation.

In conclusion, this project is a great way to show how the past labs can mix to create a great project. The project as a whole is very interesting, easy, and unique to accomplish!

Lab 8: Motion Graphics ../../../2021/05/10/lab-8-motion-graphics/ ../../../2021/05/10/lab-8-motion-graphics/#respond Mon, 10 May 2021 11:16:23 +0000 https://comdma.com/talabibi6855/?p=231 Continue reading Lab 8: Motion Graphics]]> In this final lab, I learned how to use animation, using the painting brush and the frames to create a new animation.

What was easy: I thought the assignment as a whole was very simple. The task was easy: to create a text to define your emotion in the project.

What was hard: I thought it as difficult when I wanted the animation to be longer.

How could your submission be improved: I personally would have wanted by animation to be more neat. I know it’s very difficult to draw using a computer mouse, but I’m still not satisfied with it.

How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class: I don’t believe the professor could have improved the assignment. It’s a very simple, straightforward lab assignment.

Work in Progress

How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios: I could apply this knowledge in future assignments by inputting my sketch in a short film, as I’ll do in the final project.

What was I inspired by: I was inspired by the settings around me. I also attempted to strike the tone for my emotion (‘calm’).

In conclusion, this lab was a very straightforward task to animate utilizing frames. It was short, but sweet.

Lab 7: Garage Band ../../../2021/05/03/lab-7-garage-band/ ../../../2021/05/03/lab-7-garage-band/#respond Mon, 03 May 2021 07:59:18 +0000 https://comdma.com/talabibi6855/?p=204 Continue reading Lab 7: Garage Band]]> During this lab, I learned about how to create musical loops and composing a piece on Garage Band, using cuts, the musical typing, and the automation.

What was Easy: I like picking and choosing the loops, and getting a feel of how they mix well together. I also thought it was easy to use the automation, as I used Premiere Pro and it had the same technique Overall, it is a pretty simple experience.

What was difficult: I wanted to adopt more and more music into my piece, but I had to learn to pick wisely. I also had to work on playing the piano with the keyboard to create the chords.

Work In Progress
Music Keyboard

How could the submission be improved: Unfortunately, I didn’t know how to wrap up the song, so I used a simple fade-out for my conclusion. Like I said before, I had difficulty limiting my music choices, so I should have been more picky.

How could the professor improve the assignment: I don’t think the professor made this assignment that complicated. It is a straightforward assignment that encourages us to be creative.

How might a specific reading help you: The reading gave my inspiration in the sense that it allows me to know how the creative business works. I also took inspiration from my mood and emotions, as well as the type of music I like.

In conclusion, I really like this lab. It’s very creative and unique in the sense that we never utilized sounds in a lab before. Overall, this was a unique exercise that was fun to complete.

Project 3: Game Design ../../../2021/04/25/project-3-game-design/ ../../../2021/04/25/project-3-game-design/#respond Sun, 25 Apr 2021 08:15:36 +0000 https://comdma.com/talabibi6855/?p=183 Continue reading Project 3: Game Design]]> For this project, I learned how to completely create a new figure of a chess piece with unique set of power. My piece is based around water. The top part looks like a water fountain, but I tried to make the bottom look like ripples in the waves.

Since I used Blender instead of Maya for this exercise, I decided to redo the entire pawn lab to make the chess piece for this assignment. I don’t know how to do the Arnold model.

What was easy: I really liked using the sculpting models and different textures that we get to imprint on the chess piece. This, along with the techniques in the last lab, was fairly simple to accomplish.

What was difficult: I think using the camera and rendering was the most difficult aspect of this.

Sketch Draft of Ideas
Draft 1

How could your submission be improved: I would have liked more color and light on my chess piece. The ocean waves are composed of many different shades of blue, but my piece only came out with one shade.

Draft 2

How could the professor improve the assignment: I think these creative topics are really fun to work on and tweak. The only thing I would suggest is that during the lecture he only demonstrate the project using Maya and not Blender.

How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios? I think these creative topics are really important working on animation and how to mold and film 3d models of characters for animation.

How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you? There was no reading or video that inspired me. However, I loved this image of the ocean waves. This made me start thinking of the different power set of my chess piece. Maybe whenever you move the piece, it causes the other player’s pieces to ripple back a couple of steps.

Creative interpretation

Second Wave Chess Piece Rendered Image
Third Wave Chess Piece Rendered Image

Overall, this project was really creative, interesting, and fun to accomplish. Creating a new chess piece needed some inspiration and creative thought, as well as the techniques needed to execute my vision.

3D Modeling ../../../2021/04/15/3d-modeling/ ../../../2021/04/15/3d-modeling/#respond Thu, 15 Apr 2021 09:22:46 +0000 https://comdma.com/talabibi6855/?p=171 Continue reading 3D Modeling]]> For this Lab, my objective is to create a 3D model of a chess piece. Specifically, I learned how to use bezier lines, image imprinting for the wood texture, and the spin tool and in order to create a fully 3D model of a pawn chess piece.

What was Easy: I loved how it’s so easy to create the bezier lines into an actual 3D image by using the spin tool. Even though it was not required, I also messed around with sculpting.

What was Hard: Working with the bezier took a lot of time for me to wrap my head around. I always came up short with he amount of bezier I have, and had to redo it over again. Working with the lights and camera was also tricky, as I couldn’t find where the professor was referring to.

Work in Progress
Scupting

How could the submission be improved: My model, unfortunately, was not exactly like the professor’s. It’s a bit more curved than I would have liked, but otherwise, I’m proud of it.

FInal Project

How could the professor improve the assignment: If I had to answer, I would have like more creativity with the project. Instead of a pawn, why can’t we choose which chess piece we would want to create?

How might you apply knowledge: I can imagine 3D modeling is used in creating animation in films and movies. I can remember watching how companies and filmmakers use these types of techniques.

How did a specific reading inspire you: There was really no creative aspect for this, so I didn’t have to get inspiration for anything.

In conclusion, the 3D modeling was a difficult but rewarding experience. I would like to learn more about this!

Web Design Lab ../../../2021/04/04/web-design-lab/ ../../../2021/04/04/web-design-lab/#respond Sun, 04 Apr 2021 12:36:53 +0000 https://comdma.com/talabibi6855/?p=152 Continue reading Web Design Lab]]> Introduction: For this lab, we designed our own web page, completed with our ‘resume’. We specifically learned how to code (specifically the HTML and CSS).

What was easy: It was fairly easy to know how to type what you want to say, and it was fun trying to figure out how to make your web look better and more unique.

My code
The start/ work in progress for the lab.

What was hard: Physically starting up the application ‘code pen’ was hard. I also couldn’t understand how to apply the monogram to the logo next to my name, but I eventually figured it out!

Final Project

How could your submission be improved: Unfortunately, I still don’t know exactly how to change everything about the web lab, which I m a bit disappointed by.

How could the professor improve the lab: Once again, the application of the monogram from last lab is great. I only was having a bit of trouble with figuring out all the controls.

How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios: Obviously for using a resume, or to simply upload a website or blog, you have to use this format.

In conclusion, this was an interesting and surprisingly fun experience to dive into the code of web design.

Business Card Lab ../../../2021/03/23/business-card-lab/ ../../../2021/03/23/business-card-lab/#respond Tue, 23 Mar 2021 08:49:15 +0000 https://comdma.com/talabibi6855/?p=132 Continue reading Business Card Lab]]> For this lab assignment, I leaned how to make and design a business card. Specifically, I learned how to design a card, thinking about text, the invisible square rule and color.

What was easy: It was fairly easy to copy and paste my monogram into the board, as well as fill out all the necessary items.

What was hard: Unfortunately, I couldn’t manage how to make my card look unique and interesting. Eventually I managed to tinker with the text and color the outline using a border, but it was difficult, especially because I never worked with Figma before.

Work in Progress

How could your submission be improved: Unfortunately, I feel as though I could have been more creative, but otherwise, I feel as though it looks good!

Final Progress

How could the professor improve the assignment: Honestly, I like how the lab was incorporated in with the monogram lab. It makes both labs more unique.

How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios: Fittingly enough, I could make many business cards and hand them out to individuals in the future.

How did a specific reading assignment inspire or help you: Personally, I simply looked at what the professor suggested, with adding color and changing the text font, and I tinkered with them. Eventually I struck the polished tone I was looking for!

In conclusion, this business card lab was great, as it combines the monogram lab in order to make it useful. It is an ultimately useful lab that I will use in the future.

Monogram Lab ../../../2021/03/17/monogram-lab/ ../../../2021/03/17/monogram-lab/#respond Wed, 17 Mar 2021 08:56:47 +0000 https://comdma.com/talabibi6855/?p=102 Continue reading Monogram Lab]]> Introduction: For this lab, I created monogram, from concept to actually using Illustrator to create it.

What did you learn: I learned how to manifest a monogram using only text, colors, and the selection tool. This lab also expanded my creativity, from sketch to completion.

What was Easy: It was fairly easy coming up with a design idea, and using the text on Illustrator was a simple task as well.

What was Hard: On a stroke of luck, the professor chose his initials the same as mine, so I didn’t have a lot of room to be creative than I already did. I also would say that the small simple things I planned to do was a lot harder than it looked, with the direct selection tool being especially tedious.

How could your submission be improved: I would say I could have used a bit more

Sketching ideas for concept art
Work in Progress
Finished project.

How could the professor improve the assignment: Personally, I couldn’t find anything that is overwhelmingly difficult about this project. I liked how this project was based more on our concept and creativity instead of how to replicate a task.

How might I apply this: I might apply this in acreative aspect for my job, like creating logos for companies, or simply to create art.

Business Card

How did a specific reading help this: I don’t believe I had any specific reading or illustration to help me get inspired. I used my initialed and tried to come up with as many creative designs as I possibly is.

In conclusion, this was a unique take on a lab, focusing more on concept and creativity than replicating an art piece. Overall, I really admired this lab, as it was short, sweet, and charming to accomplish.

Project 1: Graphic Design ../../../2021/03/08/project-1-graphic-design/ ../../../2021/03/08/project-1-graphic-design/#respond Mon, 08 Mar 2021 08:00:35 +0000 https://comdma.com/talabibi6855/?p=86 Continue reading Project 1: Graphic Design]]> For this first project, we crafted a holiday card using Photoshop techniques, including layer masking, Object selection, brush and pen tools, text, and layer styles.

What did you Learn: I learned many techniques, including the object selection tool and layer masking, as well as how to use them all in order to fulfill a task and create a project.

What was easy: The text, fonts, layer styles, and object selection was very simple and quick to do. I also really admired the brush tool to blend the foreground into the background.

Final Draft of my card

What was challenging: The concept as a whole was difficult. As I chose Halloween as my holiday, it took a lot of work to come up with a design idea (I never saw a Halloween card). I also had difficulty with the pen tool for text, as I somehow misclicked the text to be shorter than anticipated.

My first draft (printed out).

How could your submission be improved: I think I made all the corrections since the printing lab. I changed the witch silhouette to have color to show the foreground compare to the orange background with the silhouettes.

How could the professor improve the assignment: I think the professor made a great project (more like a ‘test’) that combined everything we learned during the past few weeks.

How might you apply your knowledge in future: I will apply this knowledge possibly for upcoming assignments (in the sense that I’ll know that I would use many techniques to create a project).

How did a specific reading or video inspired you: A reading or a video didn’t inspire me, I instead was inspired by my printing lab and was determined to do better.

In conclusion, this project was challenging in many ways; nevertheless, it was incredibly eye-opening to use many techniques in order to compose a full project.

Printing and Mocking Up ../../../2021/03/03/printing-and-mocking-up/ ../../../2021/03/03/printing-and-mocking-up/#respond Wed, 03 Mar 2021 10:54:39 +0000 https://comdma.com/talabibi6855/?p=70 Continue reading Printing and Mocking Up]]> In this lab, I learned how to create, print, and ‘mock up’ a Halloween card. In particular, I applied using the pen and brush tools, as well as the foreground and background layer masks together in order to create a card.

What was Easy: Unlike the other labs, this was not an easy project to finish. Everything, from the creativity of the card, to printing the card multiple times for perfection, was difficult. It wasn’t immensely difficult, there were just tiny obstacles that grew as I moved throughout the project.

What was Hard: There were many obstacles I encountered while creating the card. Firstly, I was stumped on the design of the card. As my card was halloween-themed, I didn’t want my design to look overly scary to the point of it looking jarring. Still, I had to put something that has the spirit of Halloween. I also had trouble with printing out the piece. As I stated before, I am a perfectionist, so every minute flaw that I picked up means I had to adjust it to make it perfect.

Work In Progress

How could my Submission be improved: I really didn’t like my layer masking of the witch silhouette. It could easily blend in to the background, and it’s not impressive. However, I couldn’t think of a picture to make the foreground pop out without making it look cheesy. I definitely made it too simple.

Finished project
Inner design of the Card

How could the professor improve the assignment: I think the professor’s goal of layering the knowledge that we gained and put it into one project was great. Needless to say, the professor’s expectations were well thought out.

Application of Knowledge: I definitely think I can apply this knowledge to physically creating a card for friends and family. I also can use it for next assignments for editing critically.

How did a specific reading or video inspire you: I looked online for some inspiration about creating cards, and I noticed a theme of an orange background and shadows to create the spirit. I also like the idea of putting jokes on the card, so I picked one that would make me smile.

In conclusion, I created a Halloween card, applying layer masks, the pen and brush tools and any other tools that we learned in the past. Even though I definitely have mistakes, I am grateful that I can now apply the techniques I used into a great project.
