What was easy: I thought the assignment as a whole was very simple. The task was easy: to create a text to define your emotion in the project.

What was hard: I thought it as difficult when I wanted the animation to be longer.

How could your submission be improved: I personally would have wanted by animation to be more neat. I know it’s very difficult to draw using a computer mouse, but I’m still not satisfied with it.

How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class: I don’t believe the professor could have improved the assignment. It’s a very simple, straightforward lab assignment.

Work in Progress

How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios: I could apply this knowledge in future assignments by inputting my sketch in a short film, as I’ll do in the final project.

What was I inspired by: I was inspired by the settings around me. I also attempted to strike the tone for my emotion (‘calm’).

In conclusion, this lab was a very straightforward task to animate utilizing frames. It was short, but sweet.

Lab 7: Garage Band ../../../2021/05/03/lab-7-garage-band/ ../../../2021/05/03/lab-7-garage-band/#respond Mon, 03 May 2021 07:59:18 +0000 https://comdma.com/talabibi6855/?p=204 Continue reading Lab 7: Garage Band]]> During this lab, I learned about how to create musical loops and composing a piece on Garage Band, using cuts, the musical typing, and the automation.

What was Easy: I like picking and choosing the loops, and getting a feel of how they mix well together. I also thought it was easy to use the automation, as I used Premiere Pro and it had the same technique Overall, it is a pretty simple experience.

What was difficult: I wanted to adopt more and more music into my piece, but I had to learn to pick wisely. I also had to work on playing the piano with the keyboard to create the chords.

Work In Progress
Music Keyboard

How could the submission be improved: Unfortunately, I didn’t know how to wrap up the song, so I used a simple fade-out for my conclusion. Like I said before, I had difficulty limiting my music choices, so I should have been more picky.

How could the professor improve the assignment: I don’t think the professor made this assignment that complicated. It is a straightforward assignment that encourages us to be creative.

How might a specific reading help you: The reading gave my inspiration in the sense that it allows me to know how the creative business works. I also took inspiration from my mood and emotions, as well as the type of music I like.

In conclusion, I really like this lab. It’s very creative and unique in the sense that we never utilized sounds in a lab before. Overall, this was a unique exercise that was fun to complete.

Web Design Lab ../../../2021/04/04/web-design-lab/ ../../../2021/04/04/web-design-lab/#respond Sun, 04 Apr 2021 12:36:53 +0000 https://comdma.com/talabibi6855/?p=152 Continue reading Web Design Lab]]> Introduction: For this lab, we designed our own web page, completed with our ‘resume’. We specifically learned how to code (specifically the HTML and CSS).

What was easy: It was fairly easy to know how to type what you want to say, and it was fun trying to figure out how to make your web look better and more unique.

My code
The start/ work in progress for the lab.

What was hard: Physically starting up the application ‘code pen’ was hard. I also couldn’t understand how to apply the monogram to the logo next to my name, but I eventually figured it out!

Final Project

How could your submission be improved: Unfortunately, I still don’t know exactly how to change everything about the web lab, which I m a bit disappointed by.

How could the professor improve the lab: Once again, the application of the monogram from last lab is great. I only was having a bit of trouble with figuring out all the controls.

How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios: Obviously for using a resume, or to simply upload a website or blog, you have to use this format.

In conclusion, this was an interesting and surprisingly fun experience to dive into the code of web design.

Business Card Lab ../../../2021/03/23/business-card-lab/ ../../../2021/03/23/business-card-lab/#respond Tue, 23 Mar 2021 08:49:15 +0000 https://comdma.com/talabibi6855/?p=132 Continue reading Business Card Lab]]> For this lab assignment, I leaned how to make and design a business card. Specifically, I learned how to design a card, thinking about text, the invisible square rule and color.

What was easy: It was fairly easy to copy and paste my monogram into the board, as well as fill out all the necessary items.

What was hard: Unfortunately, I couldn’t manage how to make my card look unique and interesting. Eventually I managed to tinker with the text and color the outline using a border, but it was difficult, especially because I never worked with Figma before.

Work in Progress

How could your submission be improved: Unfortunately, I feel as though I could have been more creative, but otherwise, I feel as though it looks good!

Final Progress

How could the professor improve the assignment: Honestly, I like how the lab was incorporated in with the monogram lab. It makes both labs more unique.

How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios: Fittingly enough, I could make many business cards and hand them out to individuals in the future.

How did a specific reading assignment inspire or help you: Personally, I simply looked at what the professor suggested, with adding color and changing the text font, and I tinkered with them. Eventually I struck the polished tone I was looking for!

In conclusion, this business card lab was great, as it combines the monogram lab in order to make it useful. It is an ultimately useful lab that I will use in the future.

Monogram Lab ../../../2021/03/17/monogram-lab/ ../../../2021/03/17/monogram-lab/#respond Wed, 17 Mar 2021 08:56:47 +0000 https://comdma.com/talabibi6855/?p=102 Continue reading Monogram Lab]]> Introduction: For this lab, I created monogram, from concept to actually using Illustrator to create it.

What did you learn: I learned how to manifest a monogram using only text, colors, and the selection tool. This lab also expanded my creativity, from sketch to completion.

What was Easy: It was fairly easy coming up with a design idea, and using the text on Illustrator was a simple task as well.

What was Hard: On a stroke of luck, the professor chose his initials the same as mine, so I didn’t have a lot of room to be creative than I already did. I also would say that the small simple things I planned to do was a lot harder than it looked, with the direct selection tool being especially tedious.

How could your submission be improved: I would say I could have used a bit more

Finished project.

How could the professor improve the assignment: Personally, I couldn’t find anything that is overwhelmingly difficult about this project. I liked how this project was based more on our concept and creativity instead of how to replicate a task.

How might I apply this: I might apply this in acreative aspect for my job, like creating logos for companies, or simply to create art.

Business Card

How did a specific reading help this: I don’t believe I had any specific reading or illustration to help me get inspired. I used my initialed and tried to come up with as many creative designs as I possibly is.

In conclusion, this was a unique take on a lab, focusing more on concept and creativity than replicating an art piece. Overall, I really admired this lab, as it was short, sweet, and charming to accomplish.

Lab 2: Working with Layers ../../../2021/02/21/lab-2-working-with-layers/ ../../../2021/02/21/lab-2-working-with-layers/#respond Sun, 21 Feb 2021 09:04:11 +0000 https://comdma.com/talabibi6855/?p=42 Continue reading Lab 2: Working with Layers]]> In the next lab, I learned about layering different images to create a cohesive image. I used an image of the leaf and the night sky to layer it. This is a really interesting lab that I learned a lot from.

What was Easy: I loved using the brush tool. There is something so satisfying about coloring in pixels. It was simple, straightforward, and relaxing. I also liked tinkering with the special effects. I tried using the glow effect, but in the end, I used the shadow effect to increase the dramatic colors of the night sky and silhouettes.

After using the brush tool.
Developmental

What was Challenging: Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a handle on actually layering the images together. I was a bit lost with using the pen tool and the other layering tools. There were so many ways to have the same effect, so I was a bit overwhelmed and confused.

The final submission

How could your submission be improved: If I would do the lab over again, I think I would make the foreground a bit lower in the image. The hand takes too much space in the image when the main focus should be the leaf.

How would the professor improve the assignment for the next class: Admittedly, the lab was a bit harder than the last one we did. Like I mentioned before, there were so many ways to do the same technique so I was a bit lost for some time. However, I’m not so lost that I can’t follow along with the professor, and I eventually found my footing.

How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios: I’m thinking of going into the film industry, so using this to work on movie posters and trailers would really help!

How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you: I don’t think any reading or video inspired me, but the special effects that I tinkered with certainly did spark my creativity.

In conclusion, this lab was really interesting. It is a bit more intense than the last one, but I learned more than I expected. Overall, it is a great experience that I once again gain more knowledge.

First Lab Assignment: ‘Creating Imagery’. ../../../2021/02/15/first-lab-assignment-creating-imagery/ ../../../2021/02/15/first-lab-assignment-creating-imagery/#respond Mon, 15 Feb 2021 17:02:02 +0000 https://comdma.com/talabibi6855/?p=4 Continue reading First Lab Assignment: ‘Creating Imagery’.]]> Introduction: For this first assignment ‘Creating Imagery’, I learned how to create a colorful image using pixels. First, I mixed an array of colors, such as cyan, blue, black, and white to create my final lab image. I used a Google Image of flowers for my second image. Overall, my experience with interacting with Photoshop and this lab was simple and enjoyable. I learned many tips and tools for interacting with the Photoshop application.

What did I learn: While accomplishing this assignment, I learned a general overview of how to use Photoshop. I learned a variety of techniques, including zooming in, how to select pixels, and most importantly, how to use the free transform to create the image.

What was Easy: The easiest aspect for me was how to zoom and select the 6 pixels I wanted for the image. It was fast, simple, and satisfying to accomplish.

What was Challenging: I’m an overthinker by nature, so I was not sure if my photo was correct in general. I also was having trouble with inputting the height and width of the pixel measurements.

I also was confused about selecting more than 6 pixels. I attempted to use more pixels, but it didn’t create a proper image.

My poor rendition of an image.
I chose blue, cyan, black, and white colors for my image.

With a couple of tries, however, I was able to get into the flow of using the zoom and the pixels. Luckily, all went well.

Using the Free Transform method, I produced this –my final image for the lab.

How Could Your Submission be Improved: My assignment could do with a bit more color. It’s definitely not perfect. However, giving that this was my first experience with Photoshop, I’m satisfied with my work.

How could the professor improve the assignment: Personally, I think the professor gave the right amount of complexity for the first lab assignment. It’s not too difficult, but for beginners, it can take a bit of getting used to the program.

How did a Specific Reading or Video Inspire you: I really admire this picture of flowers for my Google search. It has so many colors to choose from — I had to pick it!

My picture of flowers for the Google assignment.

In conclusion, this first lab was slightly difficult, but it accomplished its main goal — getting adjusted to Photoshop and simple techniques such as the Marquee tool and the Free Transform tool. Overall, this assignment was very interesting, as I never used Photoshop before. I can’t wait to learn more!
