The metaphor that I chose was “The world is a stage”. I learned how to think critically and put words into an image that made the audience think. The goal was to make sure we replaced the words with images that symbolized what we were talking about. For me, I took spotlights and made light effects shining on the earth with the drama masks making thing theatre. This project overall was more on the difficult side in terms of trying to figure out what images worked best with what I was trying to portray. The challenge was getting all the images to become one cohesive statement. When looking back, I could have added more light filters to my spotlights to give the effect even more of a pop. This assignment was well designed and I really enjoyed completing it. This project I decided to really focus on my pre-draft sketches which helped me a lot. The brainstorming phases helped me translate my ideas into an image.

Project 2

During this project I learned a lot about color and the importance of different schemes. This showed me how different color patterns can come together to really create an image that tells a story. Overall, this project was easy in terms of getting into the actual creation. However, I found this project very challenging to make sure everything looked as perfect as it could be in order to comply with the requirements for each of the art boards. I enjoyed working on this project, especially being able to see how things come together starting from just a blank idea in my head. It’s fun to see your creations come to life in some shape or form. Overall, I think I could have done more sketches and played around with Figma before I started. This would have allowed me to really understand the shapes and tools in order to make each landscape better. I think this assignment was perfect in terms of what needed to be accomplished. We were focusing on color and we were able to accomplish those tasks in four different art boards. I will definitely use what I learned for future projects. I have been able to get a small foundation on the basics of color the I need to take with me now as I move forward. The critiques definitely helped me understand what I needed to work on and what I could have done to get better.

(I had a little trouble exporting the art boards from Figma because of my layers so I had to resort to screen shots)

Project 1 Reflection ../../../2020/09/24/project-1-reflection/ ../../../2020/09/24/project-1-reflection/#respond Thu, 24 Sep 2020 10:16:34 +0000 https://comdma.com/timn11/?p=31
  1. What did you learn?
  2. What was easy?
  3. What was challenging?
  4. How could your submission be improved?
  5. How could I improve the assignment for the next class?
  6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?
  7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?
  8. In the abstract set I learned how to group similar shapes in each dartboard into one cohesive storyline. I chose the rhyme Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and tried to incorporate diamonds, squares, and triangles in my first set of artboards. While doing this set, the easiet thing was choosing what shapes I wanted to use in each set. The difficult parts were when I had to place them in order to tell the best story while also following the Gestalt Principle I had to use in that artboard. If I were to improve this project I would definitely do more preliminary sketches to have a better plan. Personally, I thought the assignment was well explained and wouldn’t have any changes to suggest. I will take what I learned with this assignment and use these simple Gestalt design principles for the rest of the semester when I’m designing simple projects. When doing this project, I went back into the PowerPoints and looked at some of the designers and what they would do in order to catch the eyes of my viewers in my designs.

  8. During this set of designs I was able to learn how to take standard figures and make them into a story. Unlike the abstract set, this set was much easier to do because I had so many options to choose from. The challenging part was that I had so many figures to choose from that I had to make sure I didn’t overdue each artboard. This set could have been better if I evaluated first all of the figures, and just like the abstract set, do more preliminary sketches. This assignment was well put together and easily explained therefore I would not make any changes. The representative set taught me to have a larger eye for what figures and shapes are important which I will take with me for future assignments. Using the PowerPoints allowed me to better understand each principle and what they called for.
